So finally started the "winter" projects.

Last night was lighting and hanging stuff up.

Really trying to free up floor place.

Did the the heater the other night.

Just need some dry wall and insulation.

Looks good!

I have a similar heater - 4000W, 240V. It does do a pretty good job at keeping my garage comfortable when required, if a bit noisily.

Mine is a 30AMP 240V version.

The big change here is I mounted it lower.

In the old garage it would heat the upper section of the garage.

So from the waist up :)

I'll be doing more and more small jobs.

All part of the get off the couch and work methodology.

Yep. 4000W @ 240V = 30A circuit.

While it heats my 1 1/2 car attached garage. Like peeing into the wind in my g/f's 3+ car detached... so I use propane, radiant spot heaters out there.

Oh yeah... I dream of that for my (hopefully) new shop. For my garage, I plan to raise the floor about 3.5". Partly to 'recess' my scissor lift and partly to get me off the cold concrete. I'm still in planning stages so we'll see how it goes... Saw-cutting the slab and pouring a concrete recess for the lift may turn out to be cheaper... especially since I need a new concrete driveway and sidewalk anyway.

Yeah the floor in my current garage was never taken car of either.

I need to paint it this spring just to try and keep it healthy for a few more years.

And leveling out a touch more would be nice.

I can't park my tool chests in a few spots or they will roll away.

Our floor got the first coat of the epoxy last night. Made the bad decision afterward of trying to eat dinner on the patio, since it's been unseasonably warm here... my chicken tasted a lot like plastic due to the fumes. But it's looking awesome. Photos to come soon.

Unseasonably warm. Does it even get cold?

Ok I'll give that.

We're slightly below those temps.

Garage in Florida; a dream (about to) come true.

Builder got the (house) foundation/stem wall done last week and the trades were doing the in slab plumbing and electrical work yesterday. Slab (for house/attached garage) supposed to be poured Friday (12/9/11).

I'm hoping they'll get started on my detached (35D x 32W X 12H) garage pretty soon! The series article, Garage Makeover, has been the best timed feature I've ever read in my life!

With any luck, we'll be leaving the cold in Toledo, Ohio just about the time winter will be letting up; March 2012 is when we're hoping to get our Certificate of Occupancy in Manatee County, Florida :)

Old garage (going to make someone very happy...):

Yes, it's possible to get five (5) cars in here, including the barely visible X5

Site of new garage:

The builder has been chronicling the build, as we can't be there to see most of it, on Facebook; follow the comments on "Mulholland Rd." for details: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150273753023291.352105.743998290&type=3#!/johnsonhomesinc

I found a guy that builds garages pretty inexpensively--and can match our hardiboard siding with the prefabricated sections.

mastergaragebuilders.com Florida-based, but seems like a neat option. Although, we need more living space AND more garage space, so I think we'll just take a bath and find a bigger shack.

Yeah the 18x20 is a nice upgrade over the 10x20, but sigh I'd wish I had a plot to build a proper garage. Tall enough for a lift.

A little update on progress, as of 12/24/11:

I was told earlier today, that they should be getting the drawings back on the detached garage this week, so they can file a permit to begin construction on that. Since they're only building the shell (to match the house__an hoa regulation) it should go up pretty fast. I just wish I could get started on getting it outfitted right away...

I got to see one (1) of my new garages last week. The detached garage will be underway once the (separate) permit has been awarded. After seeing the final drawings, I decided to add another window.

Check out the ceiling height (10'4"); detached garage will be 12'4". Going back down in another 4-5 weeks, and hoping to see another garage then...

We bought a new place last year. This is our setup.

Right now, the MGB and race Spridget are squeezed into the left spot so that I have room for her Accord.

We also have a little summer place with a heated, attached garage...I have a '73 Midget in that area. Plus some aircraft engines and other stuff.

I have a Miata that I bought new in 2001. I don't think it's ever spent a night in any of our garages.

Randy, your new place looks fantastic. You're going to love the weather down here, too. Leave the snow shovels up north!

Work was started on the detached (35D X 30W X 12+H) garage. Foundatation was done last week, and the slab poured this past Monday. They expect the roof to be on by the weekend!

"Hole in the ground" too; if you want to be able to enjoy your cars/garage, you have to make damn sure that your wife has something to enjoy too!
