Anyone else spending the holidays in the garage? This afternoon I have another date with the bead blaster.

I've been fiddling with the winter beater Jeep CJ7, slowly undoing the mess the previous "mechanic"[1] left behind. Like leaving the vacuum leaks in place and then advancing the timing because oddly enough the vacuum advance on the dizzy wasn't working so hot.

[1] The only professional part about that shop seem to be the prices they charged.

We have some electrical on the Triumph Stag Challenge car we got out of mothballs and we are getting the meyers manx out for a wrap install to cover up the faded gelcoat . We are hoping to bring the Stag and the MGB challenge cars to the Rolex 24

Putting together a 1968 MGB. The car rolled in to the shop as a painted shell on Dec 15, and I want to have it running by the new year.

Wish I had done a time lapse photo session cause its really coming together. Drive-train went in today. 85 hours of garage time and counting...

Damn - I need to stop complaining about how cold it is. At your temps, you have to stay concerned about basic survival.

Made more progress as the week went on--in fact, my pile of Porsche parts is starting to resemble a Porsche engine. We'll have some updates soon on the GRM page. And I had several follow-up dates with the bead blaster. Don't tell me wife, okay?

Just ordered a rebuilt left caliper for My '69 MGB. The existing one has been weeping very slightly and I was finally able to locate the source of the problem. Brakes have been OK, but slightly mushy. It'll be good to have it fixed.

I purchased a parts car just to pluck the 1275 out of it (to install in RaceCar 2.0). Parts car is an RWA Midget and it's so nice, I'm going to save it. I cleaned it up and painted it a few weeks ago. A quickie paint job, but OK at 20 feet. I have a good, spare 948 that'll go in it with a single SU carb setup (from Morris Minor). Should be an excellent economy car. I may eventually sell my MGB plus my plane and buy something interesting. This would hold me over if I have no street British sports car and it's basically free.

Just stripped down 1275 engine (from the Midget above) that I'm putting in The Teapot. It goes out to be boiled, rebored and new cam bearings soon. Will have rods balanced and big-ends ground & re-arced at the same time. This will end up a basic "cooking" motor: maybe 90 HP or so, similar to the engine in my race-Spridget. I had hoped to get this car finished last year, but family stuff a new house and 8 weekends away racing left me with less time. This year.

Today, I spend two hours just arranging and sorting out tools and spare parts in my garage. If I spend another 4 or 5 hours, I can get things really decent (I've really let things go). Overall this will help make me more productive as I work on my car projects.

I just planned to fit a new GPS speedometer to my Jamaican-MGA. In the end I just piled a few more logs on the fire, filled up the snifter and said screw it! Too cold to do that stuff right now.
