To Leo & anyone else who ever spent much time in a chopper, this is a film clip not to be missed.

Happy Nightmares!

That is nuts.

Does the pilot reverse the rotors to "Push" the chopper on to the deck?

Won't go to "reverse" pitch but will go to a pitch where it doesn't "pull up". Usually there is a ground crew that rushes out and chains the helicopter down as soon as it's stable on the deck. At least that's what they do when we land our Chinook helicopters on a carrier.

Chinooks on carriers? Sure they're not Sea Knights?

Yes I'm sure. We (the Army flying CH-47 CHINOOK Helicopters) occasionally have missions with/for the Navy and do some shipboard ops.

In reply to wlkelley3:OK, that makes sense. I flew on and off of various carriers over a period of years in either CH-34s or CH-46s. Even some of those on board those ships thought we were in Chinooks when we were in CH-46s. Apparently the name Sea Knight didn't have the cachet Chinook had.
