I have a 1987 scca coors race truck series road race truck #88/ I currently run a set of v700 and v710 on it, they are old and suck balls when cold, but when they warm up they are absolutely fantastic on the little truck. It runs about 248hp 285ftlbs right now with the current 2.6 turbo engine. WHen the r compound tires are warmed up I can exit tight hairpions wot without any traction issues which is amazing for a truck I think.

Anyhow I wanna do some autox and I feel im wasting time using the r compounds on the truck as it's like a slip in slide until they warm up. I'd appreciate some suggestions on a good autox tire. I dont plan on doing any tracks days on them, strictly auto x. I just dont see the point of running a autox on a 35 to 45 second autox, because they will never warm up enough to get anywhere nar their potential from my experience. Maybe prove me wrong?

I love the fact that a thread can start off like that around here.

The tires you have are among the best for autocrossing. If you want a more dual purpose tire, we have had real good luck with the latest BFGs on both our Shelby and our Miata projects. Another choice is to go all out and pick up a set of Hoosier DOT race tires or slicks, depending on what your rules allow. Any tire takes a lap or two to heat up. Autocross tires are designed to do this more quickly.

I've had great success with these. They stick immediately without needing to warm up. Hankook Z214 I used that size (225/45/15) on an 8" wheel, so you might want something narrower for your 7" wheel.

THanks for th replies. I plan on just running with the local pca and another car club. I could probably use tire warmers, but I dont have any. The problem is lately the run to run is getting quite long do to attendance and there is no way for my current tires to keep enough heat in them unless I had another person running the truck as well. The set I have no is quite old and heat cycled so maybe a fresh set would prove better.

I have seen quite a few fast cars running hoosier a7 or a75 I believe.

Average run times are 33 seconds on the the hot side and a few seconds off for most fast
