remove the projector entirely?
clearly, a HD device of that size would be prohibitively expensive, but its gotta be possible to remove the projector, and insert a giant jumbotron instead?
the biggest flat screen tv in the world, Charlotte Motor Speedway... wonder if they ever play Call of Duty or Halo on it?
you know, to test it out..
imagine sitting in the stands over 1/2 mile away playing video games...
our semi local drive-in welcomes donations and encourages patronizing the concession stand to help them raise funds to go digital.
the food from the concession stand is among the worst I have eaten, ever. I would gladly pay an additional $20 at the gate to be permitted to bring in a small cooler (which they do not "allow" but also don't really enforce)
So do none of your local drive-ins play new movies? The Starlight in Atlanta shows all kinds of new movies every week. They seem to be doing fine and are pretty full on Fridays and Saturdays. Though I haven't been in a couple of years, partially because I've been in Germany, and partially because one of my good friends was killed there about a year ago

Well yeah,
I wouldn't hang around a place where one of my friends was killed either.
the one by us has 2 screens. they show 2 movies on each for the price of admission, like a double feature. they are new movies.
its about an hour and 20 minute drive from home though. thats a long drive home late at night.
Our local drive-in, Stars and Strips, has digital projection of some sort, FM sound, three screens, double features, all current movies. They're just celebrating 10 years this week.
Taking the boys tonight to see planes! Anyone other PGH'ers want to join us? We are lucky in the Pittsburgh area, that we have 4 or 5 drive ins with in about a 45 minute drive. Hopefully some or all of them will stay open. Grew up going to them and hope my kids can do the same.
I'd like to make it to the Starlight in A-Town, but living 2 hours away puts a damper on late shows...
We had two 10 years ago, but one blew away.

Pretty much all of the Drive-In Theaters in the Chicagoland area have pretty much gone the way of the dodo. Most of them have turned into flea market lots, abandoned lots, or storage for the local public works.
The Cicero Twin Drive-In was torn down in 2003. It was unfortunately a magnet for gang activity even though it was out in the middle of nowhere, which was part of it's demise. It opened in 1969, added a 2nd screen in 1982.
The Starlite Drive-In was closed years ago. I was new to to the Kankakee area, so I could never get an answer. The screen actually is still standing.
The nearest operating Drive-In is over 50 miles away in Gibson City. Actually within a 80 mile radius, there are only 5 operating theaters.
This place has pretty good info: http://www.drive-ins.com/
