Ranchero for parts commonality with many other Ford vehicles?

Seriously, if he doesn't already have a preference, look for the best example of either to turn up?

I'm excited to get to my '63 Ranchero project, but I certainly wouldn't mind a G-body El Camino (does that specify the '80s Malibu one?) for some CP goodness... They both had lots of good iterations and a couple of awful giant-boat ones...

This really will be a Ford vs Chevy pickup debate, with no clear winner.

What about replacement body panel availability?

The second generation Rancheros were Falcon sized. Something to consider, since all the other models, both the Ranchero and El Camino, were larger. (IIRC)

Either one of them in the early years when they were small, after that, a G body one. Count me among the GRM readers who want to build a CP car out of a G body camino.

I like both, but would have to pick the El Camino every time.

El Camino because of parts availability. In this neck of the woods though, look at the frame justin front of the rear wheel. It rots out and is a PITA to fix.

El Camino would be my choice. Always thought they looked better than the Ranchero ... especially the '59 model year. Plus the name is cooler. And I owned a '79 for 15 years.
