THE FIRST ANNUAL RYAN HANDY MEMORIAL ONE LAP OF VIR
Benefiting the Victory Junction Gang Camp

As many of you know, Ryan Handy 15, son of Dave and Erica Handy, passed away December 25th 2006. Ryan shared his Dad’s interest in vintage motor sports and could often be seen at the SascoSports Trailer during SVRA events.

In Ryan’s memory, the IMSA RS / 2.5 Challenge Reunion organizers and sponsors have organized the first annual Ryan Handy Memorial One Lap of VIR. This charitable event, open to anyone, will raise money that will be donated to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a charity founded in 1999 by Kyle and Patti Petty in honor of their son Adam.

While we could have just asked you to donate to this worthy cause, we are all vintage racers and so with the blessing of VIR and SVRA we decided to make this a competitive event. Here’s the plan…

All registered SVRA drivers are eligible (and encouraged) to sponsor a One Lap team. This team may be comprised of the driver, crew, and anyone else you can sign up. Each team member will run, walk or roll (wheelchairs only please) one lap of the VIR full course. The One Lap will finish on Ryan’s Way in front of SascoSports where a party and awards ceremony will be held.

Team members will collect pledges from friends, relatives and coworkers for their lap. The team that collects the most pledges in dollars will win first place and the Ryan Handy One Lap Cup, the annual trophy that will memorialize this event. Since vintage racing is also about camaraderie, second place will be awarded to the team that has the most registered participants in the One Lap event. Registration for the Ryan Handy Memorial One Lap of VIR is simple – you can download the registration form and instructions from the SVRA Website http://www.svra.com – just look for the link to the Ryan Handy One Lap under “SVRA News”.
