Okay, guys, I've got a 1980 TR7 Spider rolling shell that I'm giving away in order to save it from the crusher. The V.I.N. is TPVDJ8AA400497. This is a rust free shell that includes 4 BL style alloy wheels. No doors, no glass, no guages, no title... Has hood, deck lid, steering rack and main wiring harness. This car has no engine or transmission. The only reason I'm posting it here is because it's so rust-free that I hate to send it to the scrapper. Some must die so that others may live. Come and get it within the next week or so, or I'll have to call the scrapper. Cheers, Scott

Forgive me if I come across as a bit terse here... .but WHY do people all of sudden decide that a car just has to go NOW and if someone doesn't come get it "within the next week or so" it goes to the crusher?

And then post on a site with (be hoenst here) limited viewing by people looking for such a thing and then get all pissed off when nobody claims it... Post the poor thing on ebay... $1 starting bid... or at least someplace where it's more likely that someone who wants it will see it.

Sorry... living here in the "rust belt" where a "rust-free shell" is practically a luxury, posts like this push my buttons...

Okay, Ian, I'll see if I can't talk you down. I am all about saving as many of these little beasties as humanly possible. that's why my yard looks like a bleedin' wrecking yard. As new "projects" are procurred, some things must go to make space available. If you are interested in this car and convey that to me, I'll be happy to hold it for you until the end of the year if need be. As for your second point, if nobody here shows any interest the same offer will be made on our local Reno/Tahoe CL. It's being made here first simply as a courtesy to our fellow sports car fanatics. And BTW Ian, this IS the Classic Motorsports website, right??? I'm just making sure I didn't post it on the Dog Fancy or Cosmo. sites. I'm fairly confident the getting pissed off will not be a problem, as someone will give it a home. In closing, I appologize to any and all who may have been offended by my post. And Ian... Try the Decafe, Brother. Cheers, Scott

Well... I appreciate you not going off on me too bad...

Much of my rant stems from a similar posting on a different forum by a guy with a perfectly restorable Volvo 122 wagon that he DID send to the crusher... all because the #$%& couldn't be bothered to post the car on a site with a better chance of finding a potential savior. Like the TR7, I couldn't take the car (as much as I wanted to), but I was about ready to drive out to AZ and beat the piss out of the guy... I haven't been back to that site since... the memory annoys me.

But seriously, CSM or not, while it's great to post it here first (maybe try British Car Forum as well?), this site is just not going to get the kind of traffic from guys who would potentially be able to save the car as say a site like Ebay would...

That said, I posted about this on a Spitfire site and did just get a response. But he's in TN. I'll forward his info to you and hopefully you can work something out.

Thanks for trying to help us clean out the orphanage, Ian. Going off on people is pretty much not my style, and I'm pretty sure that you get the fact that I was trying to approach your concerns with sense of humor switched on. Thanks for your input. That is, after all, why we post here. Cheers, Scott

As I have found in business, you need to put a deadline on things or they will drag out forever.

I was going to buy a car from a guy 800 miles from my house and I dragged it out 3 months hemming and hawing.

I see the sense in putting a deadline on stuff.

Unfortunately Pete is right, it is simple marketing to get people to react. How many "offer expires at midnight" lines have you heard?

That is the beauty of auctions, there is immediacy there; if you don't bid on it now it will go to the other guy.

I have no need for a TR7 shell, but believe me, I really thought about it!

It certainly was not my intent to strong arm anyone or be a jerk about it, but another loveable mongrel showed up at my gate Thursday in the form of a '78 Z-28. I'm runnin' out of space and my lovely bride is runnin' out of... Well you know. It's just a matter of needing the room. I did take Ian's advice and posted it on one of the Wedgehead websites. Nothing yet. I'll probably post it on CL tomorrow. Cheers, Scott
