In the September edition it's mentioned that plastic tire wraps were replaced with "correct-looking metal bands from...Ace Hardware" in the Tornado Typhoon article. Got a picture, description, or something else that would help me identify them? I could potentially use some of these in a restoration I'm doing.
I was expecting this to be a discussion on Frehley's Comet and puzzled by how it could possibly tie into CMM...
Yeah, from the thread title my mind went directly to Ace Frehley \m/

I was wondering where ace was, what the real name was, and what bands i knew from there.
In reply to mndsm:
Side-note(and completely derailing Basil's thread even further...sorry man) I just discovered that Gene Kulik is playing with Grand Funk Railroad.

Maybe something like this?

Ha! As soon as I saw Basil's title, I knew what he was asking. As I read the piece in CM, I
thought the same.
Yeah, I also thought that this was going to involve some head-banging.
Let me get a part number or something for you.
Thanks.

I know the joke is already on the deathbed, but here you go. You're welcome.
Okay, I just talked to Tim, our master detailer. He didn't have a part number, but he said that they're simply metal bands designed to secure exhaust installation.

Those look really good, too.
I believe that Moss also carries some vintage-looking hardware.
Thanks, David. Looks like what EvansB posted is essentially it. I get something similar when I search for exhaust ties. Those are pretty long, though, and would have to be cut down.
I've got a few of the Moss ties, but it is nice to be able to go to the hardware store and grab something rather than having to order the right number (at $3.50 each) from Moss.
And for the rest of you-- Ace says hi.

So I wasn't the only one.
Ha, nice photo of Ace. Amazing how far off-topic we can get things.
In reply to Basil Exposition:
Well played sir, I deserved that.

I used these in a few places on the Truck, and they do work well and look a lot better. They don't clamp super tight though.

Wonderful thread. Entertaining, funny, and informative. We don't usually see threads like this (anymore) on the CMS forum. I like this. At one point I thought all was lost , but it made the full circle and closed the proverbial loop. Congratulations all!
And of course when you put Ace and metal together, you get this:
