First of all, there's no subframe. Just a simple crossmember. It LOOKS like it would be easy to change both mounts. Wouldn't know for sure, my 150k mile example has never needed one. Second of all, they didn't put the 5 speed automatic in the 5th generation maxima. Third, I have changed a VQ knock sensor without removing the intake manifold, at all. And I am not a genius nor a spider monkey.

takes 30 minutes tops to drop the crossmember.

They're not "fried", or even worn. They're stuck. Like lots of modern cars, the ring lands are too high. Oil will bake them into their grooves. I say that because stuck rings are a problem you can fix without a complete teardown.

And fwiw, my own VQ35DE, manufactured in '02, uses approximately 1 qt of Mobil1 0w-30 between changes.
