Tell me why not? I have a buyer for the Fit tonight. I am going to eat a few payments on it, but I really want out of it. I actually hate everything about the car except for the 9 cup holders and USB hook-up for an external hard drive so I can listen to 250GB of music any time.
It doesn't get the gas mileage even with my grand-pa style driving. It's slow when it needs to be fast, and it's just not me. I purchased it thinking of two people instead of myself because I thought I was going to marry this girl. Well life lessons suck. I'm willing to eat the payments.
Anyhow I found this CTS-V, an 05 with 53k miles on the clock. Only modifications are a B&M short shifter, skip shift eliminator, and factory GM performance wheels that are powdercoated. It's black with black wheels, tan interior, navi, sunroof, etc. The guy has every single service record in hand, window sticker, etc. Seems like he takes really good care of it, babies it, has it listed at such a low price to get it sold ASAP. I went and looked at it today, drove it, fell in love with it, put a huge on my face.
Also said he researched problems those cars were having, the 04-05 models had weak rear ends/half shafts. Got that upgraded to the 06+ rear end and half shafts to not have to worry about it. Also has extended 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty. Any reason not to pick this car up? I mean I've had a hell of a time finding one.
I drove one (an 06) last year when shopping for my BMW and loved it. The interior is a bit cheesy, but not that bad. I think they look great, and they go like stink! Granted, I ended up going with the BMW, but that was more because of handling and fuel economy. Power-wise, it's no contest.
Do it!

So you want to get rid of your Fit because the mileage isn't good enough and replace it with a CTS-V?
Agree that the CTS-V is a lot more fun, but don't see it improving your mileage.
I would go for it.

Buy it! I would but I can't bring myself to get into a car payment. Sounds like a good deal from someone who hopefully took care of the car.
I don't care about mileage but when the ratings say 27-32 and you get 27 on the highway and 25 in the city and you drive like aunt may then it's like wtf. I'm not going off the on board computer rating, I'm talking about filling the gas tank to capacity reseting the trip meter, running til the gas light comes on and doing the math. I get more range out of the Trans Am with a full tank and a nasty aggressive cam, granted it has 4 more gallons of capacity, it also has 4 more cylinders and 300 more hp.
My daily commute is 6 miles now, I don't know where I'll be working in 6 months, hopefully a real job, but who knows with the economy, but if I go anywhere where I'll be making more money, I really shouldn't have a problem.
I just want out of the Fit, I've also been looking at GTOs, but the CTS-V is so much more cool.
I'm going to be the guy who says
+11ty billion

Pretty good review of the 05 from a guy on the miata forum. YMMV.
Go for it!!! It even has the room that you wanted that the TBSS has
I have been watching these closely myself, held up waiting for the G8 GXP but at $41K I am back in the market for the CTS-V
Go for it, bring it to Daytona next year.
Can't say I blame you for wanting out of the Fit. Drove one at an autocross last year with an automatic - slooooowwwwww. The kid that owned it had a carbon fiber hood and short springs on it, too. What a pig.
I'm talking about filling the gas tank to capacity reseting the trip meter, running til the gas light comes on and doing the math.
Um. You know that's not really the most precise way to calculate mileage, right? Are you filling the tank, setting the trip, and then filling the tank and checking the mileage, or just checking the mileage when the light comes on?
PS: $20k is book value for an early NSX. Just sayin'.
Yeah, so this Supermodel thinks I'm hot, and she wants to make me a kept man, and have sex with me daily, and have her bikini-clad friends around the house all the time, and she's 20-something. I will have to give up my old girlfriend who eats too much and is a little slow.
Ummm hello?
Last year when the $CDN was worth more than the greenback, I brought a G35 sedan with the manual trans back to Canada to flip, and enjoy for a few months. Everything worked out great from a $ POV, and I really did like the G35, but the other car on my radar at the time was a CTS-V. I regret that I didn't buy one instead. They are totally badass. From my research though, ALL the diffs are weak, the '06 and up is just less weak. BUY IT!
Doooo eeet!
As an aside, LS-series engines get really good highway mileage for their size and output .

Is it the Caddy warranty, or 3rd party?
I was really into CTS-Vs for about 6 months while car shopping and drove several. It was my runner up choice after the 335i, but the cars were similarly priced back then. A friend of a friend has had two CTS-Vs and loves it. He crashed the first one.
You asked for reasons not to buy, so I will oblige:
Light steering effort, may lack feel
Axle hop (still happens with the factory bushing "upgrade" but some aftermarket systems might get rid of it, at the expense of ride quality).
Axle hop can break the 06 differential. You won't be able to get magazine 0-60 times out of it more than a few times without breaking something
Very limited wheel selection for the 6 lug wheels
Cheap looking interior
Poor gas mileage (~22mpg highway)
Paint flakes off of nav system buttons (can get this fixed with Caddy warranty, assuming Caddy dealerships still exist in the future).
I had a lot of trouble finding 6th gear on two different cars
Reasons to buy:
Cars like this are going away, fast. It's like it is 1971 again....
Torque, torque, torque
V8 sound
Plenty of seating room
Great value at $20k
great brakes
won't see the same car at every intersection
If you haven't found this yet, you need to read up here:

For that price, I'd probably buy it. They sound good, look nice, and the brakes and handling are great.

Poopshovel; Book value may be 20k and buy in may only be a few grand more but maintnance and parts are going to be the killer, though I hear for 30ish large you can have Honda completely restore the car.
Awesome car.
Horrible interior. Just horrible. Abysmal. The build quality of your run of the mill crapperware.
CHeck any GM interior radio controls lately, they all chip. I know the interiors aren't all that great, but exterior is sexy. The stock wheels and the upgraded GM ones he has on there are both suitable for me, I don't really care for getting some huge aftermarket, heavy bling bling wheels.
If this deal falls through I'll most likely go with a GTO which on the other hand has a great interior and subtle exterior.
The Driveshaft Shop has a fix for the wheel hop - changing the real axles for ones with different diameters side to side (each side has a different diameter) eliminates wheel hop. From their site: "By allowing the axle bars to torsionally twist at different rates the result is traction, not wheelhop". From what I've seen on CTS forums, this fix works. The axles cost $1700, but the axles are good up to 1000hp.
