Still searching for a Canyonero replacement, this is the first thing in a while that's caught my attention on an offer.

Frighteningly low miles, only 55k.

Looking around the interwebs I'm seeing timing chain stretch and a weird limp mode because "GM didn't seal the transmission properly and road E36 M3 gets inside".

Transmission work is a non starter for me, although I haven't priced replacements yet.

I'm more interested in the AWD system I didn't know they had. Not getting many hits back in my searches, but I'm still looking.

Body looks good, interior is clean. I won't know how it drives or anything until Tuesday when I'm supposed to go look at it.

Is this another one of those "run far run fast" situations, or could this be a decent driver for a while?

If it comes with a book of receipts that indicate OCD in the way of maintenance, then it might be alright. Otherwise it sounds like one to avoid due to the issues cited above and electrical gremlins.

The AWD system suffers from the same problem that Volvos and BMWs get, the transmission and transfer case are both sealed, so the splines between the two are not immersed in fluid.  The splines rust, rust is jeweler's rouge, the splines wear down, eventually strip.

In a Volvo you still have front wheel drive. In an ATS/CTS/STS you hope the parking brake works to hold you still while you wait for a tow truck.
