Just picked one up. No rust. Cheap. Nice car. Missing the filler pieces between the bumpers and the body. Anyone have pics of what they are supposed to look like? Any sources for replacements?.....Possibly at a salvage yard near you :)

I like that. Good luck finding the fillers, I imagine they'll be hard to locate.

Is that the same crap they made filler pieces under Cadillac taillights from? If so, good luck.

I knew about the Monza and Buick H-Body. The Pontiac version was new to me. I don't remember seeing one before.

they are fun cars... i had a 79 Sunbird notchback with the 2.5 backed with a 4 speed... it wasn't fast, but it was fun.. especially driving home from work at 3am in the dead of winter when it was -20 degrees and the heater was barely able to keep up.. i started gathering all the parts to put a V8 in it- had the mounts, oil pan, headers, and accessory brackets from the Vega GT that i had a year earlier, but needed to get the stuff to hook the 4 speed to the V8- but sold it before i got the parts gathered.

That's the car my T-50 transmission came from. So many possibilities....

In reply to novaderrik:

Previous owner had a 400/T5 in it. The mounts are half there, clutch linkage is there, headers, car has a SCCA sticker on the dash, rear lower control arms are tube with hiem ends, big sway bar, 40,465 miles, roll bar and racing seat. I have the rest of the mounts and linkage pieces from my 75 Monza. If this were a Monza, it would be the deal of the decade.

I remember the notchbacks, but not the hatchbacks.

Can you post some photos of what's missing? Is there any chance that Vega or Monza pieces will work?

It looks like there was a big difference up front between the notch and the hatch, at least in '77.

Had a friend with a notch back in high school. He surprised a few guys at the stoplight drags with it…probably because he new how to drive it more than anything else.

That is an Astre in the background. The notch and Hatch had had the same front end. See the picture that nicksta43 posted

That picture is actually a help. I can see that the quarter is different then the Monza. I had a thought of changing the front and back to the sleaker Monza pieces. I am trying to find out if the radiator support is different also. The hood is more flat and not like any of the other H-bodies.

Nooooo! Keep the Pontiac bodywork, not many left. Fabricate the fillers, should be cakewalk for you.

Ahhh...I should have realized that it was an Astre. I was originally thinking that it was just a '76 in back but now it makes more sense.

My friend's older sister bought a new white Sunbird notch back around 1977. I remember checking out every nut and bolt of that little car at the time.

Astra. The Astro was a small Chevy van.

I too had forgot about these cars--I actually like the look better than the Monza.

In 1980, I was an impressionable 14 yrs old. I had a paper route. One of the customer's son had one of these, exact. I thought it was the coolest!
Oldsmobile Starfire, Firenza package.

Also around was a Buick Skyhawk

Astre. The Astra is a small Opel, in Europe.

the Astre was Pontiac's version of the Vega, which was pretty much built on the same chassis as the H bodies except they never got anything but a few different flavors of 4 cylinder power from the factory- and they had cool forward opening hoods that got in the way when you were trying to work on the engine..

I've always wanted one of those! They are like a mini-Trans Am (or Firebird Formula ). Light and RWD, and came factory with SBC's and three pedals.

I was looking at one the other day on Craigslist that was also missing that piece between the bumper and the body. Must be a common thing. The one I was looking at was a 1978 and had a Buick 3.8 V6 and a 4-speed. I was getting ideas of putting a Grand National-style turbo V6 together in it.

I'm guessing this is your best bet for filler panels:
