I think I've got to move on the car thing soon for Tiger Moms minivan. I've found a pair of T&C Touring package vans locally. 3.8 engine 2008 and under 100k for exactly 10 grand. I've also found a Honda Odyssey 2008 with essentially the same options as the Chryslers and only 66K miles for 11 grand.

I know that the Odyssey had terrible transmission problems earlier but were they sorted out by '08? Any other real gremlins to look out for? Which would you choose, and why?

I would do the odyssey if the trans checks out.

The Chrysler will be lower maintenance, fluids, filters, and not much else. While I've never worked on one, timing belts and valve adjustments in a minivan just sound like a bad time.

Not sure how the odyssey "trans issue" was ever resolved, but I'd recommend the odyssey regardless.

Try to find out the transaxle fluid change history. My 2004 (supposedly among the troublesome trans years) ran from new to 170?k with routine maintenance. No issues at all. Sold only because my wife was sick of driving it after 10 years. I added a trans cooler around 120k because of the internet.. but I think the fluid changes were the best medicine.

They do go through engine mounts. Otherwise a fantastic vehicle.

I'm super happy with my 05 t&c. I've only owned it for two years, but other than replacing the shocks, there hasn't been anything wrong with it, and the 3.8 send like a great engine.

I misread the thread title and thought this was going to be a thread about the Oklahoma State tragedy. Now I see it clearly says people movers not people mowers.

Chrysler. My '08 (with the base 3.3 V6) has been surprisingly reliable and trouble free.

Plus, Stow-n-Go. Once you have a van with it, you can't imagine life without it. But I use my GC like a truck often.

I personally know 2 people with newer Oddysseys. They've both had trans issues, one has been replaced two years in.
