Wife's DD is making a distinct clicking noise when you hit the brakes at less than roughly 5mph, then it clicks again when you release the brake. The noise sounds like it's coming from the center console, not far from the shifter. It won't make the noise if you're going more than creeping forward speed...I turned off the radio and tried it at various speeds...nothing. Only at very low speed, like you do if you move forward at a traffic light or stop sign.

Thoughts on what that could be? The brake lights work fine, I checked those.

Any chance it's your shifter lockout solenoid? Ie, the thing that keeps you from shifting out of park without the brake pedal pressed? I don't know why it would be clicking while you're moving, though.

Does it change with speed?

Only change with speed is that it doesn't happen. At anything above the speed you'd have when crawling forward in a line of traffic, it doesn't make any noise whatsoever. But at creep speed, it clicks when on and off the pedal.

My first thought was shifter lockout/neutral safety type switch, but seems odd. How would I check if that's the problem?

My 2011 Sorento does the same. There is a recall for the shifter lookout or similar which I hope would take care of it, but I have not taken it in.
