So the wife & I are burning a metric ton of frequent flyer miles and going to our first F1 race in March - The Australian GP in Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia.
Any thoughts/experiences regarding a place to stay? We’re looking for basic rooms within walking distance of Albert Park, maybe on Toorak Rd. or in St. Kilda. (Location & cost are probably more important than amenities & services.)
I know I’m cutting this pretty close…I tend to do this a lot!
(PM me if you’re interested in meeting up - we’ll be there all 4 days.)
Joe
Heh, heh... Hopefully the turbo V6/MGU-K/MGU-H combination won't be too terribly underwhelming, but I'm not holding my breath.
Neighboring suburbs are; Melbourne, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Albert Park, St Kilda, Prahran and Toorak. Your problem with getting cheap accomodation is these are the affluent suburbs during an international event.
To save anything you would need to out of walking range.
Make sure you visit Bells Brewery Bar, great racing heritage, brews their own beer, right by the track, run (or was) by an ex cop and good guy.
Go to Lygon St, Carlton for a taste of truly International cuisine.
LMK if you have any other questions, although I have been gone for 15 years, Melbourne is my home town

My emotional side says they will be terrible.
My rational side says it should make for better battles (at least out of the corners) Jenson Button has already said "We need a throttle pedal a meter long to control the torque."
The tighter gears should help to. Apparently they will be in 8th before they are in 7th now.
It's never a good sign when we're relying on our rational selves to justify a car. Or women.
They both need a healthy dose of emotion...
