Ah, the Mazda6. The sporty Mazda3’s bigger brother just got even chunkier. In its third generation now, Mazda has followed today’s automotive styling trends to a tee: “That looks good. Now make it bigger. And then, let’s make it bigger.” Its wheelbase is now just a foot shorter than that of a 2014 Ford F-150. We’re not saying that’s good or bad. We’re hoping it signifies a nice spacious interior.
Mazda continues to push the Skyactiv systems, which is just marketing jargon for technology to give you a more efficient car. The Skyactive features can’t be nailed down to a few features, either. It’s simply a term used to encompass all the ever-evolving product technologies Mazda uses to save you money at the pumps. The example we drove was the Grand Touring, which claims to accomplish 40mpg on the highway—not half bad for such a large car. So thank you Skyactive, whatever you are.
