Sorry, but the removable top is not appealing to me. I wanted them to make a real truck, not a Wrangler with a Bed and yes it’s exactly that. Jeep is trying to tout that it’s more than that, but it’s exactly that, regardless of the extended wheel base.
I have no interest in a removable top either, BUT.....the market is flooded with well-developed and highly-capable pickups now. If Jeep just came out with a normal pickup and slapped a Jeep badge and fenders on it, I don't see it as competing. The Gladiator isn't going to be nearly as good at "pickup" things (towing, for example) as an F150 or Tundra/Tacoma, so it has to stick to what people like about Jeeps.....the look, the roof and doors off, etc.
I get what you’re saying, but when you tease me with this:
Then just make a Wrangler pickup, I’m kind of on the “MEH” side of the excitement scale. The Gladiator is cool, but just not cool enough.

THIS. EXACTLY.
They should make this, and the new Wrangletruck should be called the Scrambler II. Or Scrambler Unlimited if you prefer.

Yep, that's just about perfect. Updated, on a Ram frame.
You like changing balljoints and tie rod ends?
I do! Especially compared to my Ranger transmission or Avalanche knock sensors. But AFAIK they took care of that issue.

I have to admit this thing is growing on me the more I look at it. I'm interested to see how it tows in the real world. It has a higher tow rating than the gas Ranger but has slightly more horsepower and a decent bit less torque.
the question is how well it will tow when bro'd up with big tires
No it's not. Because I dont care how their trucks tow, only how mine would tow. I do wonder if that rating is for the sport on street tires or the Rubicon on the factory 35s.

Wait, is that a Toyota grill? What's goin' on here?

Introducing the 2019 SCRambler Extended Wheelbase Unlimited. Henceforth known as the SCREW U.

Clever, but let’s try to not get the thread locked by the mods.

Sorry, I thought it was funny
I'm still interested in the Gladiator, it's just not what I thought was coming.

I'm also dubious that it will tow comfortably at its rating. I'll be curious to hear feedback from owners on that.

I am stoked for this thing! I’m sure there are going some things wrong with it, but it’s a “family friendly” sized 4x4 available with a manual transmission, a truck bed, a decent tow rating, and the roof comes off... and it’s a Jeep based on the Wrangler, so the aftermarket will be to the rescue to fit its shortcomings soon enough. Make mine red or forest green.

The grey extended cab works for me. Lot better than the 4 door.

LOL @ the picture of the extra-short wheelbase doing 'heavy' towing.
Oh, and the configurator is up online sands pricing.
I would buy the red one. Don't care how much it can tow.
Agreed, the red shorty pushes buttons. It looks fun. If I want to tow, I’ll use the 2500 :)
I guess it depends how much Jeep wants to hit the toy (aka Tacoma) market vs the Real Truck (aka F150) market.

Except they all kept the 5ft shorty bed w/the flare tucked under the corner of the cab. I like your 6ft(ish) bed option better. Those are more Scrambler, this is more Comanche:

I was playing with the configurator yesterday when I was done configuring a TrackHawk. It’s not the right truck for me but I’m sure they will sell gobs of them.

I also have no interest in front solid axles in any vehicle that isn't rock-crawling. There is zero upside to it over IFS for anything other than the most aggressive offroading. there are way more than zero downsides.
IFS is weaker, more expensive to lift, more expensive to maintain and doesn't provide as much traction. Why do you think 'yota guys fo IFS swaps?
Great to hear, 10 colors in base model. 6MT, manual windows. 4wd. $35K or so. All I need.

That makes me desire a single cab even more. Twin sticks with roll up windows. It almost makes me want to close my craigslist tab looking for 80's trucks.

I agree with you. However, they won't make it, so I won't lose sleep over wanting the single cab. With kids/family, I need the 4 door, as I have too many 2 seater vehicles. I can finally replace my Tacoma with this. I am looking for stripper, 4 door, Jeep truck, and excited about owning/ordering my first American vehicle. I was shopping FJ cruisers (I know you have one), and with the doors not being able to be open from outside - makes it a chore in the school car lane - so no go for me, and reality of needing a 4 door is sinking in :)
In reply to mr2s2000elise :
I agree about the FJ. The rear doors suck.
I'm looking at the Gladiator as a "screw you guys, I'm getting in my truck and doing truck stuff" truck and I don't want any more than one other seat.
With one kid (sort of) out of the house I can see a light at the end of the automotive tunnel. I want to be an old man with a single cab truck.
