That exhaust sounds like the Kinetic I had on the Forte. enough noise under hard accel to be happy, nice little burbles and barks in the right places. Never grew old.

Really I am just sad that we will never get the i30 (Elantra GT) N here. Definitely more my speed...
Nearly every day i walk by a 'regular' Elantra GT. The one glowing review i have seen on the N makes me a little sad that the N version of the car isn't sold here. The car itself is very nice looking to my eyes.

"Yet". I am betting they N Elantra gets brought over. If not, then the Kia option might make it in the new Forte5 due out next year. Speaking of sexy cars in this segment.... throw that drivetrain in the new Forte (read: Mini-Stinger) and I'd be tickled pink.
In reply to Bobcougarzillameister :
IIRC they have gone on record as saying they are more likely to build an Elantra N sedan just for the USA than they are to bring the i30 N hatch over here. Which is expected, but a bummer.
We looked at Veloster Turbos a few years ago and passed... this looks interesting!
Although the i30N is a lot more practical... my wife would drag me to the dealer tomorrow if they made a Kia Soul 'N'!

I like the Soul reasonably well but... did you know if you Google 'put Juke motor in a Cube' it links to my posts here on GRM? LOL

I'm OK with it!
We had a 2010 Soul that my wife DD'd for a few years. It was a perfectly good appliance, and my wife loved it, but it was not at all interesting to drive. 275hp and better suspension could change that dramatically.
I expected to see another overstyled monstrosity, but this is actually pretty clean and tasteful. I like the design much better than the current car......and I spy a bit of Mazda 3 influence in the styling---- which to me is a good thing. This is a sporty hatch that an adult wouldn't be ashamed to be seen in. I dig it.
I'm curious, hopefully the driving experience is direct and fun. Hyundai always delivers good value for the $$, maybe they can deliver a visceral driving experience as well.
I want to complain about this thing but I can't. It improves on everything I didn't like about the previous generation while maintaining an air of respectability.
The Koreans are really picking up what the Japanese abandoned.

In all the right ways. Thw new amg a class hatch was really pimpy at the NAIAS today.
There is an article going around that the N-cars are designed more to be a fun drive than achieve the best lap times. While that might be a negative for some people, I'm all about a car that 'feels' fun driving to work at 5/10ths since I can't be a hoon every time I drive. Sounds similar to the ST line of Ford cars.
Looks like a pretty excellent package, if it drives as good in the real-world as the on-paper specs suggest.
The rear end is much-improved over the last veloster. The front grille.....reminds me of when you see a Civic with an APC body kit and front lip that hit too many parking lot dividers and broke off in the middle. Yuck.
I keep coming back to this. I even watched the press release - once I know how much it's going to be out the door, I might be tempted to visit a (gasp) Hyundai dealership (on purpose even!).
If it sounds that good in real life and drives as well as they claim. Well, I guess we'll see.
This isn't the veloster, but it's a review of the EU spec i30 N. The underlying mechanicals will be almost the same: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2018-hyundai-i30-n-first-drive-review It sounds rather good. If the price is right, this could be a real winner in this segment.
