Son has located a Mach 1 with the Track Pack with less than 1400 miles at local Dodge Jeep Dealer.
Any reason not to go ahead and try to negotiate with them?
What we have been reading, seems to be a well built American Muscle Car.
Appreciate the input

As long as you've driven it and the ss 1le equivalent buy whichever one you like more.

You can try. The market is depreciating slightly, but Ford product is depreciating slower than most. The Mach 1 is very much a "I know what I have" type of car and the dealership will probably negotiate accordingly.
Headed to dealer now, test drive and compare
I work in auto lending and we have seen something of a sharp decline in used car values recently. Dealerships have slowed down considerably and are absolutely negotiating where six months or more they would have simply said "no".
During winter performance car sales also slow to a crawl. I would leverage all of the above and your son could get a good buy on the car.
I would recommend arriving stating that you are looking for a Mustang GT and nothing about you are looking for a GT with Track Pack.
Said another way, don't show your hand that they have the rare model you want.

I don't think that really matters. The dealer is only going to sell the car at a price they are comfortable with.
The best way to get a better deal on a car is to let the dealer finance you, and/or stand up to leave when they tell you the price. And if it's not a good rate, you immediately refinance it for a better rate after you get the title.

Always be prepared to walk. If they want to make the sale, they will be more flexible. If they aren't flexible they don't need to sell the car. Remember, it's not like you need a Mach 1 to get to work the next day. If they get any hint you want the car pretty bad, you are on their schedule at their whim. Being ready to walk, putting them on a time limit, etc is how you keep things even a smidge in your favor.

Yep, when I ordered my BRZ they tried to put a $1k ADM on it. I stood up and shook the salesman's hand and said I wouldn't be paying a markup. They removed it under the condition I financed with them. Which I agreed to because I knew if they didn't give me a good rate, I could just refinance it.
And they ended up beating PenFed which I had planned on using anyway.
