I counter with better driver's car and deficiencies that basically boil down to spring/shock tuning.

Good comparison with both cars on the  same tire re-71r, driven by serious driving journalists, and an IMSA driver on track.

So, buy a $50k+ car, then immediately have to change tires and suspension to still make it a lesser car.  Meanwhile, the auto trans is trash, and the manual trans grinds into 2nd gear, either going up or down (and did you see the shake in the shifter in the video I posted?). You also get a cheesy stock exhaust with the manual.  Where do I sign up?

Mike mine an auto Z-car. I'm middle aged, I'm not going to flog anything this heavy or mechanically complex around a track. This is a moderately quick cruiser, and I'd prefer mine in the reliable variety instead of a tarted up BMW

floppy suspension, bad auto, manual transmission issues...we get it you don't like the miata

But all kidding aside , how about we don't write off a platform based on consumables?

Sure if you're chasing numbers this car isn't for you, but most of us don't get paid to drive fast and high 12s is plenty fast for me.  Based on the comments from Mark and Casey this is still a potentially better car for those that value the feeling of a driver's car.

In side view, the Z very much reminds me of the Jaguar F-Type. Someone said that's because the original 240Z borrowed some of its design from the Jaguar E-Type.

Have you driven one? If not, you have a remarkably strong viewpoint based on other peoples views.

I think the E-Type inspiration was probably filtered through the Toyota 2000GT first.

Do you have a timestamp or general spot in the video of the shifter? I skipped through it, but didn't see a shot with the console in-frame

If you're talking about the 2nd gear crunch, go to 5:50.  For the shake, 15:42 gets you to right before he shifts.  After the shift, is when it happens.

It's still a CD009, right?

I think this says way more about the long string of journalists, youtubists, and 'influencers' driving habits that drove the press fleet car before them than the transmission.
