Last night I bought a $300 running and driving '93 Toyota MR2. Yes, it's a rebuilt title. Sure, the T-tops leak and the A/C is dead. The engine probably burns a lot of oil. But it is mid-engined, manual-transmissioned, and sitting outside my office waiting for the work day to be over. I followed in my chase vehicle while my buddy drove it 100 miles home with nothing but a fresh tank of gas, a quart of oil, and a new battery.
I am here to let you know the deals are still out there, and there are some surprisingly pleasant people to deal with on craigslist. Keep those hopes up

You made your buddy the crash test dummy? Impressive!
300 for something able to move 100 miles under it's own power is also impressive. Nice score!
lucky duck, I loathe dealing with craigslist. I look forward to a build thread

I'd have bought that so quick I would have gone back in time to buy it. Wait, I still can!
BRB.
300.00 is the lucky number lately
In reply to Blitzed306:
$300 was also the purchase price of my Buick RMW challenge car.
The MR2 is destined for LeMons.
$300 means you can do awful things to it and not feel bad.
Ya so now I just spent the last 20 minutes scrolling through Craigs list with a $300 Maximum. I was surprised with my choices.

Still my favorite MR2 of the bunch
This actually brings up a interesting business model.
I have wondered if you could pick up sub $500 cars and just wash, vacuum and if needed a little buffing and then sell them on for say $300 more. Sell 1-2 a month and you have a nice little bit of easy beer money.
Most sub $500 cars I see are nasty and a good cleaning would easily double here value even if they are not running.
I searched for $500 max and got 1200 results because everyone is too lazy to put a price in their ad so they put in $1.
edit: then it occurred to me that you can also specify a minimum :P

I did that in high school instead of working for someone else and made a killing. Sadly, $300 cars are a lot harder to come by now than they were 10 years ago, at least around here.

Sell the t-top inserts and recoup half your purchase price. Nice score! Does it have ABS or power steering?
I've been day dreaming of an MR2/s for the past few weeks for a rallycross project so yeah I'm super jealous, congratulations though!
Man that is a smoking deal
Yeah, but do all the pixels work?

Wow! Around here people are still asking $3000 for a 1990 with 150k on it :/

I don't need 4 vehicles but another MR2 for $300? Oh yeah, it would be in my driveway too.
Aaaaand it's gone! Sold it to my friend who will be in charge of the LeMons team. I can't fit any more projects in the garage and he wanted it in the first place. Plus I have the Challenge Wagon. This won't be the last I see of it, since I'll definitely help with the LeMons team and it will likely get built partially in my garage. This is more of a formality.
I'm what you might call an enabler.
Loved those T-tops though!
