This past weekend I ran my F500 at a vintage race at my home track (Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch). I run in the wings and slicks group which is a mix of C-sports racer, D-sports racer, Formula Continental, Formula Super Vee (air & water cooled versions) Sports 2000.
Club Spring Mountain drivers are welcome and some of them were in our group.
The pole car was a Wolf GB08SM, one expects this level of car to be much faster but it was 42 seconds a lap faster than my poor 33 year old Novakar on a 3.1 mile track! I wasn't even the slowest car on track.
Nothing like 1200lb car with 350hp and 2600lbs of down force to humble your club racing car.
Ten or fifteen seconds off per mile makes me a bit jumpy, wondering whether that guy in the GT1 Corvette is going to notice my little red Neon. In a sports racer, I'd be even more concerned.
But, it's kind of fun to take your Neon IT car, and finally get so upset with the guy in the 911 who would pass me at the end of the straight, only to have me take him in the twisties, over and over, that I ran door to door with him through turn one and two. Didn't see him again. Then I went and whined at the Steward about allowing a non-driver on the track.
Well, seeing as that Wolf is a full on Sports Racer with a K24 for motivation...

Wolf GD08s turn the same lap times as LMP2 cars, so it was actually a neat comparison.
