Got an offer for the wifes screaming pile of poop 02 explorer of an 94 Accord. Anything i should know about the 5th gens? Never owned one or really looked into them funnily enough.
It doesnt have to be the greatest ever, i really want to get rid of the explorer lol
The automatics can fail, but no more so than an Exploder. Other than that, they are quite dependible. A co worker just sold one of the cleanest ever for around 1800.
We race one in Chumpcar and it's a pretty decent chassis. The F22B is a great engine and general maintenance is pretty easy.
The hub over rotor design sucks for replacing rotors so if you ever have to do that I recommend upgrading to an Acura CL 2.3 hub. Theres tons of write ups on that but other than that a great car. It's a 90s Honda so of course its great.
Ok, cool. Its an autotragic but if it ejects the explorer from my house its a damn win
I had a 94 EX -- it was a great car. The guy that bought it from me took it to 400k miles on the original engine, transmission, and clutch before someone ran a light and hit it.
The only repair that it ever had was a set of axles and wheel bearings. It did rust behind the rear wheel, where the bumper cover met the fender even in a non-rust-belt state. For whatever reason, this seems more common the the maroon ones??

400k is something i like to hear. It has 200k now but the explorer is worth a whopping $650 so im not expecting a huge trade.
I forgot about the rotors and axles BS. Still, not a deal breaker.
I've had CD9 coupes on the brain lately. Go through the Bisimoto catalog and get 180whp (supposedly) with relatively easy (supposedly) engine work.
...Or just drive it stock for half a million miles. I guess that's the sensible choice.
I'd take that trade in a heartbeat. Having lived with and worked on both I wouldn't even think. Do it.
I would have but the guy trading it was an absolute idiot, ended up going to be 40ish minutes late and kept asking me questions making me realize that 1 He didnt read the ad. 2. Hes either stoned out of his mind or incredibly stupid.
All he literally had to do was show up with the car and i would have traded in a heartbeat ffs
In fact, im tired of dealing with morons on facebook and im posting it here

axles are much easier to find for the autos so another + if they ever go (which getting the factory ones rebuilt will net you better results)

Got 163whp out of an F22B2 with a milled/ported/polished head, bisimotor cam gear, intake, header, and straight piped exhaust. Engine also had 250k+miles
