Gf's 13 year old is starting to get into cars. Asked her ma what she was interested in and I got all kinds of excited when I heard "an 80s Corvette?"
Turns out that she didn't mean Corvette, she meant "convertibles" and thats about the only criteria she had.
She has a reliable car she has inherited that she'll be able to drive too and fro, so this would just be for fun and learning.
So, looking for something we can maybe start working on. What does the hive suggest?
In reply to Mr_Asa :
A miata of course with a build date from 1989.
I'll second a Rabbit Cabriolet with GTI wheels and grill.
Triple White Rabbit Cabriolet , thats what all the stewardess's had in the 80s around SoCal

Rabbit would be awesome.
Aren't they getting priced out, though?
Fox body Mustang or E30 if you can find a decent example of either.
It's gotta be the Laura Holt special, the white Rabbit.
Why not an 80s Corvette convertible?
Is a fwd Capri from the early 90s close enough to "80s"
Those are cheap, kinda cool, and they've got pop-up headlights.

I mean, I'm gonna push it.
Also, thread needs more pics.
VW
Another option: Wrangler, aka YJ. It was the thing to have amongst the sorority crowd at UWO in the 90s.
Loads of parts available, the YJ is unloved so it's relatively cheap (from what I understand) and you can take the doors off which makes it even more of a convertible than a convertible.
I know its not 80s, and not sure what the budget is, but these are going to be cheaper than an MK1 and are still quite cool.

3rd gen camaro convertible?
In reply to Slippery :
That Fiat is barely even a 70's car.
Didn't MGB production go into the 80s
OPen Fabebook Marketplace---put in keyword: convertible and see what returns.
I just did in my market and this is my top choice.

Bingo. Got it in by 6 months.
sadly no GSX spyders from the factory and the gs-t spins the wrong wheels :(
So yeah, 3rd gen F-body
Cheap and cheerful - late 80's Pontiac Sunfire or Chevy Cavalier. Easy to work on, 4cyl so she won't kill herself with HP, actually fun to drive for a 1st fun car.
An 80s Vette is cheaper than most, if not all, the other things pictured.

I'm mildly hopeful i can talk her into T-tops as an option. Or maybe something with a targa top?
