Okay, here's a simple question: which would you pick, and why? The Boxster is an S model, for those of you that know your suffixes.

I think you should qualify this question with something like "as a 3rd car" or "as a toy". If this was part of the question I take the 818. As a primary or a 2nd commuter vehicle the Boxster wins hands down. I am a bit bias as I drive a 924s as my commuter 12 months a year up here in the snow belt.
I know which one was quicker around the track :) Neither would be my primary car - I pick the 818. It looked really cool and fast at the challenge.
Boxster. Only because I detest the sound the Suby flat fours make. I really truly wish they had chosen another drivetrain since I think the car itself is pretty cool (aside from the controversy surrounding the styling "contest").

I am sure I could get an gen II into an 818.
And DD it.
And get better fuel economy than the Subaru.

Someone ship me a completed 818 and I'll make it happen.

Yes Porsche daily..........818 track toy. I like 'em both.
818
Because I'd rather drive it across the country than a boxter.
But if I was building my own it would be a Factory Five Daytona Coupe with an LS in it. Because I'd rather have that than anything.

Having seen both an 818 frame and an Exocet frame up close, I prefer the Exocet as well.
What about a Subaru-powered Boxster?

Boxster for me as I'm trying to stay to one car and the 818 will just not allow that. I would bake in the texas summer.
Boxster for me. I really wish they had designed the 818 with a roof. It's just too big of an investment to be only halfway useful. Maybe we will get a variant one day...
Boxster S.
818 = "Blank sheet of paper and you made it look like THAT?.. on purpose?!"
Also no fan of the Suby sound track.
If I'm going to have something wildly impractical yet street legal, it had better at least have a vintage look/feel to it, if not authentically so.
I wonder how hard it would be to use a Subaru H6 instead of the H4, either in the 818 or a grenaded Boxster? I would much prefer listening to that, even if not as fast.
I'd say Boxster S if used frequently, 818 with mods if track/occasional weekend only. The Subaru engine won't be an issue if the power mods are kept reasonable AND IT GETS A PROPER TUNE. On 93-octane the EJ25s can run 300-350 crank HP without any issues if the tune is correct and the intercooler gets enough airflow. But I'd prefer a Cayman S to both
The later Subaru Flat-6s should fit, they are only about 0.7" longer than the EJ series (due to chain drive instead of belt drive), I'd imagine they'd fit even though Factory Five says they didn't design around it. I doubt an LS would fit without frame modification, the EJ is SHORT and the EZ is fairly short as well.
