OK, this is a different Vs thread. This has nothing to do with the relative merits of the cars and it’s nothing to do with a purchase decision. It’s how many do you still see on the road. I’ve been talking to Tom Spangler on e-mail and we have a different view on this and he claims it down to location.
The New Edge Mustang was on sale 99-04, The Boxster was 96-04 so it has the advantage on years, but they made a metric E36 M3 ton more Mustangs, yet I see far more 986’s on the road. Yesterday I drove 20 miles, about 30 mins and I counted three 986’s but only one NewEdge.
What are other peoples observations.
I think I see more Boxter's as well, but I wouldn't testify to it.

I don't really pay enough attention to either to be able to compare how many I see, but I'd guess I see a Boxster out and about frequently, and since Mustangs are everywhere they just blend into the background for me pretty much no matter the year or trim level.
I see more Boxsters although I'm probably the worst person to take a sample of for this purpose. Did 4.6L Mustangs from that era have some sort of bearing issue that causes catastrophic engine failure that caused them to all disappear, or anything similar to that?
I'll have to count today. I would expect more Mustangs, I can only recall 1 boxster in the past week, and there is a new edge in the driveway.
A Boxster isn't really my cup of tea ergo my radar is not set to their frequency so take this with a grain of salt but, I've never seen one in the wild. Ever. I see tons of Mustangs but, oddly enough, I spot '94-'98 'Stangs more frequently than any other "generation".
I saw a new Ferrari of some sort the other day as I left work and I instantly thought, "Douche.".
Then I wondered if I was unjustly prejudiced against the average self-indulgent wiener.
Nope.

they just seem to get neglected and driven into the ground. same motors as panthers, and those go forever. same with the v6.

I see more New Edge's than 986 Boxsters around here. No one where I work in Stamford, CT would be caught dead in a 10+ year old Porsche, let alone a non-911.
Meanwhile, I drive a 283k New Edge

I think this is what is at work with Adrian. Mustangs are just so common, nobody notices them. Plus, he's been Boxster-obsessed for a while now, and I'm sure we've all experienced the phenomena where once you are interested in a certain car, you start spotting them a lot more.
I might see one Boxter per month, maybe, during the summer. I see that generation Mustang daily, even through all but the worst of winter.

Teslas, Teslas everywhere...
I used to see a lot of both. These days I see slightly more new edge mustangs than boxsters. Everyone seems to have moved on from the new edge.
Mustangs. Tons and tons of Mustangs.
you have to consider too that, at least for me, a porsche stands out and catches my eye more then a mustang does.
So many Mustangs here. Most of them are V6 cars in or rapidly approaching "ragged-beater-status.'

New Edge by far. My neck snaps at seeing any Porsche and still see more Mustangs.
Mustangs are more disposable than porsches so most people that owned them have long ago traded it in after the lease ended long ago. Where as everyone is trying to get the last bit of life out of their Porsche before the bearings go bye bye. Im going to car count today and see how many I see
I have never seen a Boxster where I live, Nor even a Porsche except for a 911 turbo street parked ( I should have taken a photo). There are at least 5 SN95 New edges in my neighborhood not including my own. Yesterday at work I parked near another one.
When I drove a Volvo 240 I would see 2 or 3 everyday. After the deer killed it, I never saw another. We tend to notice the same car we drive and ignore most of the rest.
Fairly rural Texas, 1000 Mustangs for every Boxter.
Mustangs, by a landslide.

I agree with this, mist of the mustangs I do see of that vintage are numerous different colors, exhaust dragging the ground teenagers who don't take care of them.

In one corner, we see excellent engineering fouled up by decisions made because of accounting. In the other corner, we see average engineering kept on the market too long in part because of accounting.
I've never heard of the term "new edge.." What does it mean? I know what a SN95 is, but is there a difference between a SN95 and a SN95 New Edge?

New Edge Mustangs are the 99-04 models. Basically the same as the SN95 underneath, but with updated "edgier" styling.
In reply to WonkoTheSane:
Not one that matters. They're all SN95's from 1994 to 2004. There was a restyle that didn't touch the interior for 1999.
