So Monday I pulled the trigger and bought a 1999 boxster for $2500.00. What could possibly go wrong?
I figured worse case I can part it out but it runs well, the top works and the clutch feels good.
The A/C doesn't work, the seats are a little worn and it has 150k on it.
I think it might make a fun toy and would be cheaper than my 1998 M3.
Anyways here are some pictures. I should get my grubby little mitts on it Friday.
I am excited, it should be a fun project.
Anyone want a track ready 1998 M3 4 door 5-speed? I am thinking $7950.00
WOW that looks great for the price!! Well bought.
Sweet! I think Mental just picked up a cheap one, too! You guys should go camping together.
are they really going for that cheap? That's less than most Miatae around here

I just sold a 1990 miata for $4000, so yes. Apparently reliability adds something to the price...
Seems like a lot of orphan Boxsters lately. Good luck with the re do.
That is awesome. Is there some aftermarket to the headlight areas or is that plastic cover thingy stock?
Also- sell enough out of it to make it a challenge car! You don’t need no stinking top!
Sell the factory wheels and toss on some cheapies and hit the challenge?

Can’t, initial purchase price can’t exceed $2018.
I still think you should sell it to me and keep the m3

That looks like an awesome deal! Congrats! I should try to find one of those...
Oh, wait, no... I should say "Oh noes! Surely you'll be killed by flying IMS bearing shrapnel! Get rid of it quick!"
Was going to leave pics of the caged and winged boxster I saw at NCM when One Lap came to town. Alas my phone based googlefu fails me.
Congrats on the purchase.

I figure if it made it 150k it's probably fine. At $2500 if it blows up I can part it out for at least that much...

Wish they were that cheap around here. The cheapest one on my local CL is $5000. Not that I search for them every week or so or anything of course.

In reply to moxnix :
It was a trade in at the local carmax. I got it from the dealer only wholesale auction.

I have a saved search on local CL for pretty much every 'cheap' Porsche and i'll second that they don't usually list below 5k. Then again, they don't seem to sell at 6+ in a lot of cases so who knows what they're going for. $2500 seems right for that car considering the venue and the wear/damage. Nice buy and GLWS on m3!

I have the same search. As well as Mercedes lol. I have seen one 986 under 3k. It's in socal and needs help!
I'm glad you bought it.....that car has been tempting me!
Good luck--- hard to see how you'd get hurt unless you try to restore it to #1 condition or something silly like that.
Holy crap. Awesome buy, congrats!!!

I finally got the car to my house Sunday.
The past two weeks i was out of town for a work conference and then my family vacation to the keys.
The car drove well. I need to fix the A/c and the seat is ripped. I started by pulling the seats so I can take them to the upholstery shop. He is going to repair the drivers seat and dye the passenger seat to match for $225.00.
I ordered a few items from eBay. I scored a non ripped steering wheel with airbag for $80 shipped. I bought a set of nice OEM floor mats for $65. I ordered a new shift boot for $10 and got two hood struts for $15.
The interior should be in tip top shape when I get done with it.
After I screwed around with the car I took my kids fishing at the bridge by my house...
