I'm old enough that I could have and very nearly did buy one of these when they were new. My favorite Ford/Mercury dealer had one of these in that baby blue color, a 6 cylinder with auto, that was still an okay DD kind of car. I also came close to buying a very low mileage example off E-Bay a few years ago. If I remember right, that one was a V8.

I like these, and some years of the Maverick/Comet, but if I was going to buy a Granada/Monarch, it would be an earlier than '79 example....assuming I could find one. When I lived in Memphis, there were still 2 or 3 rolling around, but they were somewhat "battle scarred".

Grandfather bought a new one around 76, it was the same green color with a green vinyl roof. At some point he had it painted white. He gave it to me after I graduated from college and I blew it up within a few months. I know where one is for sale in Springfield Ohio (Dayton Area) if anyone is interested....

For a few years, when they were first introduced, these cars were available with a factory optional 351. That went the way of the "dodo" when CAFE first kicked. Then Lincoln brought back the 351 for the 1st year of the Versailles, but had to revert to the 302 as production wore on.

Strangely, I saw one of these, a 2 door, today. It was parked in a driveway but in a fashion that implied it had been recently parked and could be counted on to move and thereby allowing the other cars out of the driveway. It was rusty but still a rare sight here in northern Ohio.

Had a high school friend in the 80's with one of these- we called it the "Grenade". but it had a 302 with nitrous. The car caught several people off guard.

Friend had one with the manual transmission option. Nice car, really.

Triple green = totally awesome. I almost bought a dark green metallic '71 Imperial four door hardtop in college. It had green button-tufted leather interior and a green vinyl top. It was suh-weet. I saw it at a car show with a $1500 price tag in the window, and by the time I convinced myself I wanted it and went to the bank, I got back just in time to see the new owner shaking hands with the old owner.

Awesome score for you, though.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the "faux Mercedes" look of the earliest Granadas, and even more so the early Monarchs. The switch to rectangular headlights kind of left me cold.

These are also one of the few cars from the '60s-'70s that I like when the vinyl roof doesn't completely cover the whole top.
