id rather have the red one, but then again i have a weird attraction too late 70's early 80's vehicles.
I actually talked to a guy about a mustang II during my challenge car search.I was interested because he said he swapped the 2.8 v6 for a "better engine"plus it was cheap and clean.
The "better engine" ? Not a 302 but a 4 cyl out of a courier lol
The one I would want would be a 4cyl model. The King Cobras looked great in a 70s kind of way but there's something to be said for a boring notchback whitewall Mustang II.
With the bottom/right of everything in the Esslinger catalog thrown at it.
I've heard tell of what their really good parts are capable of. Make a stock-block 302 run home with tail between its legs and embarass YB engines too if you're of the four cylinder persuasion...
no. nothing can help a mustang 2. it's just awkward with bits of too many generations trying to come together.
Honestly, I've never looked into Mustang IIs, but what little I know makes me think they'd be a good project. Small, light, a small block Ford fits, rear wheel drive. And everybody seems to hate them so I assume a basic one wouldn't bring /that/ much money. (I wouldn't be surprised if I'm completely wrong on that last assumption.)
Honestly, if i could pick up a King Cobra in full 70s stripe regalia with decent body and interior for cheap, i'd rock it.

This reminds me of one I saw at an autocross when I stopped by on a whim. The guy called it a mini boss. Fast as berkeley.
I honestly have always thought that the Mustang II has pretty solid styling overall, just needs a little cleaning up. I love the blue one that t25torx posted, remember seeing that car in Popular Hot Rodding. They also look gnarly in vintage Pro Stock trim.
The Rugirello-Roush Mustang II from the '70s, that was strictly built to go street racing with a bored and stroked 460 was a sick piece too.
I've never really understood the hatred towards the Mustang II. For years, they were the go-to for cannibalizing suspension bits for hot rods. SBF fits. Sure, they're not as pretty as the "original" mustang, but then, pretty much everything after 1969 and before 2005 looks terrible. I'd love to pick one up, but salvageable ones seem pretty non existent for a reasonable price (by me, at least).
I think it is that "pinto-ness" that makes them easy to hate.. That and it seemed like Ford was abandoning "the mustang" to give the world a economical commuter car.. sorta like they tried in te 80s with the Probe
The Pinto/Mustang II/Bobcat are basically the same car under the sheet metal. Transmission/differential gear ratios were different from year to year. Mustang II had optional V8/Pinto had 2.0/2.3/V6 option. Front suspension/cradle was fully independent that has been used in kit cars/projects for years. These cars got a bad rep because of poor placement of fuel tank/filler neck. Many cars of the era had same poor engineering/design. Gen I mustangs had a drop in fuel tank w/filler neck above rear bumper as well. Media coverage brought attention to Pinto.
