I've been toying with the idea of picking up a C6 Z51 in a few months so naturally I was researching where it falls in the SCCA autocross classes. It looks to me like it's in A Street along with the C6 Z06. Is the C6 Z06 really in the same class? If so, that seems a bit unfair.

And I guess while we're here, Street classes allow 200tw tires, open shocks, catback exhaust, and one swaybar right? Nothing else?

Pretty much it on the modifications. You can change wheel diameter +/- 1" and offset +/- 7mm, but not width.

I haven't seen the final classing yet but I know from bitter experience that all E46s, from a base 325i though an M3, fall in F Street. So yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if the Z06 is in the same class as the Z51.

If you want to be nationally competitive you need to pick a car for the class. It's always been this way. It sucks that the C6 isn't competitive in anything but Z06 form, but it is what it is.
Depending on your region you can certainly still have fun and go fast.

I have no delusions of being a top-level driver, haha. It's just sorta disappointing to see that I'd be pretty unlikely to place well based on hardware. On the other hand, that means there'd be very little reason to be careful with mods

I'm in Portland OR so I imagine there's a few people racing some cool stuff. Just assuming that because there's some moneyed people around.

Same goes for the Fiesta, when you move to STX you get lumped in with the Focus ST and it's ability to wear much larger tires and the AWD crowd that is also much less traction limited.

The Z51 is capable of being competitive at the regional level. AS really is a drivers class. On street tires, the Z06 just isn't that much faster than the Z51.

Maybe not for putting power down, but the z06 has wider front wheels and that's a huge advantage in any car.

I'm not positive but I think you can run CAM-S with basically open mods, 200TW and a full interior.

That was my other option: go play with the muscle cars

I feel your pain, my Evo is hopelessly outclassed in BS, my only shot is hoping for rain.
And when it rains?
It's 'all the car'

The Z is also significantly wider and has taller gearing. Hence why the C6GS and C5Z are neck and neck with it. The Z51 will be a touch behind but not by a huge amount.

There are 9 "street" classes, that's not enough for every car out there to have a place where it can be competitive at a national event. I've never driven a C6, but I suspect that at your typical local event the difference in performance between a Z06 and a Z51 is fairly small compared to the difference in driving skill of most of the drivers.

I guess I'm just more surprised that the C6 Z06 isn't in SS with the C7 Z06, Porsche GT3, etc.
