We had a Tesla arrive at our autox yesterday. The owner was quite happy to show off the car and explain its features. Naturally I parked my Elise next to it -- you can see the shared DNA, but overall the Tesla is much bigger and not as "sculpted" (at least in my eye).
He was new to the sport, so his times were difficult to benchmark. My instructor commented that the torque was unbelievable, but overall he felt the car to be a bit of a "boat" compared to the Elise (d'uh -- a Tesla is almost 3000 pounds). It was eerie to see it run but not to hear anything.
Anyway, the owner had a blast, and he was quite surprised at how little "charge" he used. I suspect that if he returns he will continue to improve -- there's a lot of potential for him to take advantage of. His "mileage" will certainly decline as he gets a sense of how to use all of the massive torque.
If only my Elise had that much twist

Was it the 2.5? I drove that in the spring, was really impressed by the stonking great gobs of torque. It certainly didn't feel boatlike to me, I've driven the Elise too and thought the Tesla 2.5 was just as much fun. Love the eerie turbine whine it makes when it accelerates.

HAHAHAHA that was a good one... get it? Voltage...potential...no laughs? tough crowd.

I LOL'd.
The first thing I thought when I saw the thread title was "Tesla at an autocross...and he's still there because he used all of his batteries and couldn't drive home!"
Let's hope he comes often enough to stay current.
Watt are you guys joking about here?
Ohm my. Haha, I usually have more resistance to these kinda jokes
New guys are always pretty amped.
If he keeps it up, he may soon be inducted into a trophy position.
So long as he keeps it grounded he should have a positive result soon.
was the guy wearing a Tesla t shirt and did he have "The Great Radio Controversy" cranking from the stereo the whole time?
because i totally would..
So... how many circuits did the Tesla complete?
One. But I'm positive his times went negative with practice.
I'm just glad that the classing of the Tesla is no longer in flux.
I'm sure it was just a fluke.

I'm glad he has a surplus of power, but his weight could still impede his times.
Throw an electrified ceiling over the track...

I figured he'd be cranking AC/DC.
I get a charge out of it.
Could he drive ohm after? Or was the battery flat?

Wait, wait, I've got another one:
I hope it wasn't a short circuit.
