Ok so I am finally getting off my duff and starting to plan my winter projects. One of those I would like to do is add some Sparco seats to my Solstice.

The question is my passenger seat has that darn sensor to figure out whether I have my 85 lb son riding with me or a 300 lb big gurl. Can this sensor be hot wired to work with a aftermarket seat? Or do I just remove the OEM seat and say good bye to the passenger side airbag working? I honestly also have no problem having the airbag on full time as my son is to the point where he is almost tall/weighs enough to benefit from a airbag.

Anybody know where there is a good write-up on this?

Seat in question.

Seems like you could wire it so that the passenger airbag always will deploy.

I don't think I would want a airbag that would always deploy. Just in a impact is good for me thanks.

I would guess that the oem seat has a pressure sensor that acts like a scale, i see no reason why one couldnt transfer that sensor to new seat with a little tinkering. However, calibration might be an issue, and messing with airbag sensors can be hazardous to ones health. That said, if you can figure out how to calibrate the scale, it should work. as a bonus, it might even allow you to add a scale readout to the dash so you can adjust for the passenger weight penalty.

It would be a new twist on corner weighting.....the corners of your passenger seat.

The Solstice uses a series of conductive strips as a pressure montior. Moving the strips changes the current flow. The cushion and sensor mat are designed to be replaced and work together; That is the sensor mat is calibrated to work with that specific seat and cushion. Also, when replacing the sensor mat the passenger presence system module needs to be rezeroed to work with the new sensor.

This isn't something worth messing with since you won't be able to assure the safety of the modification for your passenger.
