I'm planning on using a generic 5 gallon aluminum fuel cell in my challenge build. I am however a bit concerned that the foam in the cell will not be enough to keep fuel sloshing away from the sump during some hard cornering. So, I guess the first question is, is that concern valid, or will it be fine?
If it won't be fine, I am trying to come up with a way to put baffles in the tank, that won't require me cutting it open and welding, since I am not setup to weld aluminum. I scribbled up the idea below. I figure using mostly 2" tall thin metal, I could cut and bend 2-3 pieces that could be inserted through the fuel filler, and bolted together from above. It'd be a press fit, and would hopefully keep the pickup from being starved. The rear piece would be cut and bent to fit against the two rear corners of the cell, and would have some small cutouts to allow fuel to flow back in if the level got too low. The piece going to the front corner would have a small segment as tall as the inside of the cell, to keep it from "floating" upward. Any thoughts?
