I have a rear axle from a 1st gen rx7 that I need to use, but somewhere in it's past, the spring perches got removed.
I have another rx7 axle that I can't use but with perches still in place.
I would like to not ruin either the perches or the donor axle during the removal process. It looks like the perches are just welded along either end - the one side looks very simple to cut/grind the weld. The other side is all jammed up with the shock mount bracket, so less obvious where to grind away to free up the perch.
Any advice is much appreciated.
You may have to take some of those mounts off to get at what you are removing. For my 8.8 swap we removed all brackets and rewelded, but we were doing a completely different axle change over. For details: http://www.celica-gts.com/forums/index.php?topic=29189.0
Darrick used a cutting torch and had to cut into my old axle to get a healthy amount of spring perch. But you can buy new spring perches online. Depending on the size of your rear springs. Circle track cars do this all the time.

That doesn't work. That is a spring pad for LEAF springs, not COIL springs.
