I just started back to getting to some autocross events after taking a few years off (work reasons), and as I was loading up the tire trailer the other day I happened to notice that my portable air tank has a "Discard After" date on it. And of course that date has passed. The discard date is 3/26/2014 (so exact!). It's a fairly large one, five or eight gallon, and in pretty excellent condition - no dents, dings, rust, etc., and it's mostly covered with a protective layer of stickers :)

What say you? Safe to keep using for a while, or am I risking imminent death due to catastrophic failure?

mostly depends on your usage. If you've drained it frequently (and had it drained while it sat idle), you're fine. If it had air with moisture inside of it, who knows.

My air tank (craftsman) is about 12-13 years old and I use it. Never noticed an "expiration" date on it though, lol.

I have seen a few "expire" usually they rust out the welds and just spring a leak.. can sound quite dramatic though!
