vs
the teutonic terror, the one that started the cult that is the BMW sports sedan, the one, the only, BMW 2002tii

FIGHT!!!
Operations note: I will be delayed in updating the fights over the next week. The soft rule of 2~3 days for about 2 pages maybe stretched abit for I will be in Miami at the boat show. Be patient, I have an idea for the next fight!
OP is sticking with the GTV-6, although that is one sexy 2002
Still have to go GTV6, sexy, balanced, handling king, hemi V6, glorious sounds.
and still Champion

I want the GTV6, but I feel like the 2002tii would be less masochistic.
GTV... I would have paired it against the E30 M3

Alfa.
The tii is an 02 with...fuel injection? Big deal ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
I have and love a 2002. It's not a tii, it's better
(well, it will be again when it's reassembled)
That being said, I have a visceral reaction when I see a GTV6 like few cars on earth. Not sure why I don't feel doomed to own one in the same way I do some sort of British sports car, a Jaguar, another go at something with a V8...
Perhaps I just have some sort of fundamental hangup on my own personal aesthetic being compatible with things British, American, German, and Japanese, but feel like I just don't have the necessary flair for Italian cars.
EDIT: My actual vote... Of the two cars above? GTV6.
GTV6, all the way.
I do have a genuine soft spot for the 2002, and the performance and restoration aftermarket seems to be reams stronger, but that V6... Hubba.

Should have been a rare turbo

Then the Alfa would have had to be a Callaway:

There are plenty of performance parts available for the GTV6, but yeah, a lot of restoration stuff is a little more difficult. A lot of the drivetrain parts are actually quite cheap, especially for good used parts.

Tii, and I want mine to be a 74 with the big tail lights. Ha!
I'll take the Bimmer please and thank you.
I like everything about the Alfa but the back end. It just doesn't look right.
I have a nostalgic fondness for the 2002tii. I used to catch rides home from college breaks with a girl who had a battleship gray 72 or 73 tii. It was a neat little car, and she was one of only two women I've known who knew how to drive a stick shift very well. The other is my wife!
In spite of all that, I choose the GTV-6.
2002 is sexy, GTV-6 is awkward looking to my eye although not unattractive. The M10 is a soldier of a motor but I love the way the alfa motors sound and I hear they are actually not too terrible to own. Maybe an Alfa swap into a 2002 would be tasty.
Otherwise... 2002tii all the way.
I'll have the tii, thanks.
I like BMWs, I own two, I own two of what most BMW fanatics consider one of the ugliest bmws made.. the Ti.
But I never found the 02 all that appealing as a shape. It was conceived in that awkward time between the late fifties/early sixties curves.. and the straight edges of the late sixties/seventies... and in my humble opinion.. just never quite worked as a design.
The driving is phenominal though.. as long as I do not have to look at the car. The E21 was prettier
GTV6
The Alfa is like the hot girl next door, where the 2002 is like your aunt Mildred. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
You guys really shock me sometimes. Never knew there was so much alfa love. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/cool-18.png)
I never really looked at the GTV6 as some kind of unobtainable vehicle- they were always easier to get than good GTV's of the previous model (as seen in the U2.5 Trans Am thread). Seriously- I don't know if you could live with one for a super long time, but I suggest that you should make an honest attempt to get one. Just even for a month. alfabb.com has a good classifieds, and aroc-usa.org should have some as well.
The V6 really is a gem of a motor. And IMHO, the 2V 3.0l is better than the 4V one. We had a 4V one for about a decade in a 164, but I really loved the time we had a loaner when it was being worked on. '91 164's are almost a dime a dozen, and it's not all that hard dropping one into a GTV6. Helps that the trans in in the back of the car.....
A really good GTV6 is a bunch cheaper to find than a good 2002. 2002's are much like the earlier GTVs- very strong following, sometimes to the point of insanity. GTV6's are just insane owners... ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/cool-18.png)
