Returning for it's second bout in the vs ring.. the winner and new champion, the AMC Gremlin
The new contender, hailing from Detroit, the Chevy Vega. Availible with a Variaty of Inline 4 engines (including a cosworth!) with up to 120hp, the New in 68 SubCompact from the general could be had in coupe', hatchback, sedan, kammback, and panel wagon versions.
Vega wagon but as the Pontiac Astre.
Vega, particularly if it's a Cosworth.

Vega. Definitely. The available Cosworth option, as flawed as the car may be, trumps anything that was put into a Gremlin.
Vega GT, (with Buick Turbo v6).
The first year for the Vega was 71.
I've driven both quite a bit and I always liked the Vega, but I'd have to vote Gremlin. It was just a better car, and available with a V8.
I rode in a nearly new Gremlim back in the '70s and owned a '72 Vega from new. IF, they were both in "as delivered from the factory condition" it would have to go to the Vega. HOWEVER, 99.9% of Vegas produced seem(?) to have dissolved into piles of rust, while Gremlins were not nearly as popular and have also disappeared.
The Gremlin, like most/many AMC cars always came across as a "parts bin special", while the Vega came across as a shrunken bigger model Chevy...depending on model/options.
I voted Gremlin in the last one, I'm sticking with it in this one.
real easy to drop an SBC in a Vega.
Stupid easy to drop up to 401 inches in a Gremlin....or a Chevy if that's how you roll.
I vote Gremlin
My uncle had a Gremlin and my sister had a Vega. Gremlin is a better built car, Vega looks better but the engine (except the Cosworth) was crap and the body rusted while looking at it. So it I could have a Vega with either the Cosworth engine or a V6/8 swapped in (preferably a V6) then Vega. If I had to contend with the standard Vega engine then Gremlin. Any Gremlin is better than a standard Vega.
a young vince vaughn would say Vega, Baby! Vega!
but i am neither young nor vince vaughn, so i say gremlin.
Gremlin blew the Vega out of the water 2 to 1.
Gremlin wins... but a new challenger appears!
I had a Vega coupe... 1bbl... auto... bias ply tires(set to 40 psi) I bought it for $25 drove it for about 5000 miles before the trailing arms ripped from the frame because of the ROT..... still managed to sell it to the junkyard for $50
Put any of these POS against either a Capri, or Opel Manta of the same time period and you'll see just how lousy the Vega and Gremlin were
