First car with the SR20DET, Bluebird 2000SSS Attesa Limited. AWD SR20DET "Bluebird" aka Nissan Stanza in the US.

I was thinking that the Galant VR4 was a sleeper. This one really is the king of compact sedan sleepers. Who would ever think what is effectively a Nissan Stanza has this drivetrain?

I would, because I read about that car in either C&D or R&T.

Yeah.... dork.

I distinctly remember them describing dumping the clutch at full throttle and two tires scrabbled for grip until the ATTESA started shifting power to the other end. For the life of me, though, I had been thinking that it was a RWD based Bluebird that they were testing.

Well, it has been a long time, you know? And Japanese cars to me, back then, were trivia, since all I cared about was Firebirds.

The Stanza was a recycled last-gen Maxima and thus secretly a very good car that was just uglified and decontented to keep it from competing with the newer one.

Have a look at the antrx forum. Pretty sure there's been a few conversions done

Were these sold in the states in AWD/SR20DET trim? Are any of them still intact?

Nope, all American Stanzas of that body style are KA24's (single cam 4 cylinder) and FWD. They became the Altima in 1994.

Well apparently there was a homologation car:

You could probably get the regular one though and give it your own rally treatment. Would probably look great if done right.

In reply to sethmeister4: Yes, I had one. Great DD for the wife, but nothing to get excited about. Never seen the AWD version here.

My wife's first car was an '88 Stanza. I have never driven or wrenched on a bigger pile of steaming crap. It was a good enough car that I will walk before ever buying another Nissan product.

But it's cool that they made something like the one posted. really.
