My buddy looking to rebuild the '57 F100 we rescued recently is looking for a Y-block to power the truck. Anyone have one or a lead on one? We're in Gainesville, FL.

I'm not 100% sure on it, but I think I remember that there were different blocks sizes/types available. Is there a certain one he's looking for?

Think there was one at Go pull it here in Jax. 56? Ford. I won't be there for a week or so but I'll look.

mostly there were 272, 292 and 312. There are also some differences besides displacement and interchangability of parts.
Check classified ads on the HAMB website. Put on your asbestos shorts as they can be a bit rough there.
Bet these are all the same person. May be able to get a deal?

Are you married to the idea of a Y-block?
They're pretty awful and really heavy. Then only good thing about them is they have solid lifters so you can run them hard until the valves float.
I've spent a lot of time wrenching on Y-blocks, unless it's the big MEL version, they're awful.

I think the main reason he wants one is that's what came in it. I would imagine he's open to suggestions though.
Rebuild or restore? Restore, keep looking for a 272. Any, and I mean ANY plan other than an original factory style restoration, there are three hundred better engine options. Twenty of them will have a Ford oval in the casting somewhere.
