I'm with you. I want to put a T9 behind a B18/20 in my 122. It was originally an auto so I want to see if it will fit the transmission tunnel without any massaging.
We plan to be back in PA this summer. Hopefully we can plan another get together.
From what I've read, that is why the T-9 is used in some Volvos rather than the T-5. The T-5 fits fine in later cars with a BW35-sized tunnel and not so much in the earlier cars. According the Chris, the T-9 has a better shift action and it also keeps the same up-left Reverse location as the M41. The downside is the O/D gear is a bit shorter than the M41 J-Type O/D ratio, so I will probably need to change the rear end ratio to a taller gear. Comfortable highway cruising is more important to me than quickness from a stop. But if your car was originally an automatic and the R location isn't as important, then a T-5 might be easier to source. My understanding is V-Performance up in NY sells the adapter plate to the M41 bell housing for either.
I commented in one of Tremec's FB ads/posts asking about a modern version of the T-9. A Tremec version with optional gear ratios would be nice. Maybe if enough people comment as well, maybe they'll think about it since I don't think they're making any more T-9 across the pond and as mentioned, they have always been a bit rare over here. A brand new option would be nice, although I realize it won't be cheap.
