Hey guys,
I have a question regarding coolant. I have an abundance of John Deere pre-mixed Cool-Gard II coolant from work for our diesel generators. Could I use it for my RX-7/REPU, or is that a big no-no because I can't use coolant for a diesel engine in a gasoline engine or is all the same stuff? By the way I don;t know if this stuff is the best on earth, but the sales rep has my boss convinced it is. We use it in every one of our diesel sets including Cummins,Kohler,Detroit, etc...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would make sure the coolant is compatible with the coolant system seals in the rotary. Some coolants reportedly can damage them.
I don't know about the rotary, but the answer to the general question is no. Although for the most part, as long as it's an empty fill, it doesn't matter much. Some coolants will react poorly with other coolants, so you pretty much want to match what ever it in there. I also know that most newer VW's take G12, and the basic green can actually pit the aluminum head on a VR6, so in that case it does matter.
I have the engine, and whole cooling system drained, so maybe I can use it. I can't say for sure that I have every drop out of the system however, so maybe not. Maybe just best to stay with the conventional green stuff, and water?

All I know is you mustn't mix silicate and silicate-free coolants together. They will gel and gunk up the coolant passages. Usually it will say on the package if the coolant contains silicates or not, but if you are still not sure what you have in there, then do a cooling system flush before refilling it.
