Unless you go on vacation for a week and come back to everything smelling like ass. Now my wife wants new carpet....

Transverse leaf spring, fiberglass body, SBC - it's a Corvette!

Good point, I hadnt noticed that. Another forum I used to lurk on had rampant "do a search you stupid noob" type responses so much that actually doing a search yeilded nothing but similar questions answered only with "do a search, noob" and no actual information. I think thats the standard response when people dont know the answer and dont care to find out, but still want to appear as though they know. Here it seems like every question is more like a race to see who can answer it first.
As per forum rules you are disqualified if your answer is wrong, but bonus points if the question didnt fit a miata but you can somehow prove why a miata is actually the answer and so on...

You guys do realize that the vast selection of topics means that there are rarely questions that are asked once a month.
I watch a cruising board, and the same question does come up all the time. Like "what should I do at this port". All the time. One can understand that the mass of the same question can get tiring.
But this board- even the "what car" threads are always different- the criteria and restrictions always are changing. Even "the answer" answer has so very many forms what what it is and can be.
And then, for every totally obscure and out of left field question that we expect no answer to-someone knows something. This is so very consistent on this board- it's fascinating.
Finally, even what can be considered really boring question- the threads become fun topics.
This board so much illustrates the idiom- the only bad/dumb question is the one not asked.
I saw a do a search response recently, it is possibly the first time in all my years here that I have seen that.

I dunno, I've been asked some pretty dumb questions.
In reply to Nick (LUCAS) Comstock:
There has been 'do a search' but it's usually meant to guide someone not yelling at someone to stop wasting other's time. If the forum search worked better, I'm guessing the person would have just gave a link to the thread.
At least that's the world I've built around myself.

Well, I didn't say it was 100% perfect. There are always exceptions.
Why they come from the longer term posters is interesting, though.

I even commented on it at the time I found it so odd.
Here, I found it.
Nick (Not-Stig) Comstock wrote:some guy wrote: You really need to search - there have been at least two threads about this same car. Anyhow, We had one from new and I really liked it, very solid and reliable. However, as said, for some reason they get really terrible mileage, around 20 mpg for all 215 hp. That was as bad as my Toyota V6 pickup truck, which was an aerodynamic door in comparison. This may be the first time, in all of my years here, that I have seen a sincere "you need to search" post. Just found that odd. That is all.

That's because you're famous. The more famous you are the more people think you know and the more willing they are to ask you.
And before you say "I'm not famous", you're the center of a movie about cars. You're the Canadian Eric Bana. I don't know ANYONE who mucks about with Mistas who doesn't know who you are. I once saw a header on a Miata and the owner bragged, yes bragged, that it used to be on your car. If I ever meet you in person I'm asking for your autograph on general principle.

Quoted for truth. There is a bizarre collection of knowledge on here.
The longest I've ever seen a question go unanswered is 3 hours. It was a truly obscure question. I was amazed that there actually was an answer.
Ask anything, and I mean literally anything. Questions don't have to be limited to cars or anything remotely automotive. Someone on here has the answer and probably has personal experience with the subject.
I think the members on here enjoy sharing their knowledge, as much as they love anything automotive. Maybe more.

Third the price and drop a jeep tub or something to that effect on that frame and you might have something.
Oh, stop with the famous talk. It's just a small pond. Besides, you'll make it even harder for my wife to live with me...
I'm still waiting for the reveal on where that taillight is from.
I have found that when using the search function, unchecking all options except "forum" yields pretty good results now.
I agree with the consensus, this is an amazing place to hang out. I have learned so much in my time here. Thanks to all of you for being awesome.

That was answered half way down the last page - Goggomobil (yay MCarp22).

Can I have a free 25k to buy an overpriced, beat R32? C'mon, I stupidly wrecked whatever I had before so I need a new car.

I guess the last step is important or I'll have another smell to mitigate!

Haha. I'd also not recommend doing this to a vehicle that will be stored or not driven for a while. Please rodents, come in and have a tasty bite to eat!
