Has anyone driven one? Own one?

I hadn’t checked the prices in about a year. They’re dipping into my range.

Any thoughts on engine reliability? Would the 8-speed slushbox suck less than the 6L90 in my ‘10 CTS-V? Or would I be better suited holding out for three pedals?

From what I understand, they're lively as hell, but again- wait for the left pedal. I know racerfink has driven them in anger several times and quite enjoys them.

My buddy in Naples has one, loves the E36 M3 out of it.  It’s an auto.  I think if you’re wired to drive stick, you gotta wait for 3 pedals.  I love my E60 (auto) but I had my choice yesterday and I took the Sonoma because Manual.

The price they are going for right now make them very attractive.

The 8speed isn't bad. Everyone I have talked to about it said hold out for the third pedal.

I know that the 8-speed is faster than the stick. Motor Trend was doing their Best Driver's Car and had requested a 6-speed ATS-V, and then when Caddy boss Johann de Nysschen found out, he told them they really should be testing the 8-speed instead. The next morning they woke up to find a Cadillac employee waiting at the track with an auto ATS-V. So they tested them both and found that the auto car was faster around Laguna Seca, by a couple seconds I believe. I'm not sure if the ATS-V 8L90 has the same calibration as the Corvette 8L90, but if so, its a honey of a transmission

I'm not sure why you'd ditch a CTS V for an ATS V. Around town the ATS is sooooo much less practical. Need to be faster on the track? Plenty of ways to do that without the ATS.

I guess the stick, and potentially collectability, are what the ATS has going for it.

In reply to Dave M :

400lbs lighter. 7 or 8 years newer. Easier to find with a stick/recaros I feel like I at least need to sit in/drive one.

While the acceleration is hilariously fun in the V2, I REALLY feel the weight. While she was no “skinny girl,” my V1 felt so much more tossable and “connected.”

Those sound like good reasons to me.  Add lightness.  Add manual.  Reduce substantial years of wear and tear.

Haven't driven one or surveyed prices in awhile.... off to AutoTrader.  :)

Hmm, didn't we just talk you down from a Focus RS? Get your new house done and then worry about the new car! AADD indeed.

I appreciate your enabling <3 sub-30’s to low 40’s. I still lust for the FoRS, but I *think* I’d like to wait till they start hitting the 60k mile/sub $20k mark, where I can buy one that’s either already modded and survived, or can mod without regard for warranty.

I’d like something a little newer/lighter than the V2 in the meantime that still cracks off sub 13s 1/4 mile times in style.

YES_DEAR: <insert kissy-face emoji>

For now, driving 80 miles a day, hopping in a fast car that I can manually row the gears in would make #angrypoop less angry.

I've driven the automatic ATS-V. That's about all I can say about it since my drive was a lead/follow on a damp track which meant I couldn't corner hard or get the power down. Seemed to be a great chassis.

Like I said, I think they'll be collectable. Go for it! House be damned.

Because he's in the beginning phases of building a house.. nothing to do with ignorance or fear.

Is he physically building the house himself?  No?  What's the problem?  It sounds like he doesn't have time for unreliable "projects" and a newer, more reliable car that is also fun can help resolve some of the stress of "building a house" on top of the rest of modern living's stress.

Sorry I’m too full of ignorance and fear. Hurr durr.

Paying someone to build a house has never created stress that might be made worse by, say, dropping $40k on a car.

And his 2010 Cadillac CTS-V is clearly an unenjoyable hunk of project junk. That’s why he should sell it to me for $2000.

$2000.00?  I'll even throw in that extra one for free.

My Cadillac V Lab video at Daytona from the ATS-V.  We caught a slower group really quickly, and never got a good lap in.  The brought us in when somebody pulled over in the infield when they lost touch with their group.

My V Lab video from CotA in the ATS-V.  Much better session.  The first time he tells us we’ll be going in, I used the paddles to put the car in 8th gear, then he decides to do another lap.  I thought the trans would adapt when I floored it, but it did not, so he gets away from me at that point, but I do my best to make it back up.
