Most new style Caprice PPVs seem to command $5,000-7,000 at auction . This one is sitting at $1,500. If I had managed to sell the 4Runner, I'd be seriously thinking about buying this. Toyman, here's your badass cheap squad car.
Those things deserve the 4.8 internals in their 6.0 block for the high rpm screamer. Has anyone priced the parts list to actually complete it on the cheap? There is just something about a 8k rpm V8 that makes me daydream..

The stock hydraulic lifters are the limiting factor in that recipe and are only good to 7200-7500 rpm. I have gen4 4.8 rods, stock ls3 pistons and an ls3 block sitting in my garage. I need a cam, crank and lifters to finish that up but that will be the second motor in my truck.
I love that they list the hours instead of mileage, its because all of the idling cop cars do right?

Yea, but it would be a heck of a fly and drive.
Yes. Well, it will be soon. Waiting on Illinois to get off its ass and issue me my replacement title.
I just saw a near set of 3 of the 18" steel wheels for these in the JY last month.
I wish I owned something that they would fit on.

GM never sold the PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) to civilians. They are just now aging out of service. They are basically a Holden Commodore.
In reply to Ram50Ron :
GM Performance roller lifters (PN 88958689) - old info- were rated to 8000rpm. And another that was supposedly created for the Cadillac race engine were rated to 8800rpm. Also from GM Performance. PN unknown or maybe same just different description. Not that I've thought about it much.

Technically neither they were the holden caprice down under they are a bigger car then the commodore/g8/ss. Longer length and longer wheelbase.

I think the "stretch" is entirely contained between the B- and C-pillar. G8 front clip bolts on.
edit: here's a thread about putting G8 nose on PPV:

The Caprice has a bigger back seat and larger trunk I believe. They're basically Australia's version of a Lincoln Town Car as they're often used for livery service. But when you strip them down a bit, the big back seat and trunk are pretty good for cop stuff.
I think most of the interior and exterior stuff in front of the B-pillars is interchangeable with the G8 though. So you can remove the dumb police center console and shifter and install better looking G8 parts. Or if you crunch the front end and don't want to pay a bunch for expensive body parts from Australia, you can bolt on the G8 stuff.
For the first couple of years they brought them over, you could get a 'Detective' spec (9C3 RPO code) with plastic wheel covers and a much nicer G8 based interior but those are much less common than the 9C1 cruisers. And the newest 9C1s got the Chevy SS dash and a column shifter instead of the floor shifter but those won't be widely available yet, and they're more expensive when they do show up.
I really wanted a 9C3 as a dad car, but they seemed to hover around 18-20k. Realized I could get a newer, nicer, car with way lower miles, that gets 100+mpg, for less money and my practical side won out. Being a grown up is hard.
There are a couple of those local to me. Prices are in the $4000 range. Those are tempting, but I just bought a car. My wife might have something to say if I pick up another this soon.
