I'm currently in the process of getting unmarried. I've never lived on my own, so have never been able to pick what I wanted for furniture, art etc. I figure I might as well furnish my house with things I like. I'm not too concerned about whether females that visit my house, like it. I'm considering a v8 coffee table, but they seem to be overdone. Also, I have a really cool old wooden tool box that was my great grandfather's that I plan to use as a coffee table. I am considering cleaning up my old r1 engine and using it as the base part of a table lamp. Anyone have any other cool ideas to make my living room more fun? Any good suggestions for stuff to hang on the wall? I have a really cool two spoke Boyds wheel that I was maybe going to turn into a clock.
V8 tables are only overdone if you have more than one already. Just because they exist elsewhere doesn't make them any less cool.
I dig the wooden box idea.
Otherwise, cool hoods make hanging wall art, and someday I'd love to make something out of my spare 66 Caddy grille and bumper. Probably have to reinforce the wall...
I like the V8 crankshaft as a lamp idea. Don't forget to hang up some posters of your favorite sports team, your favorite car, and other art that you like that women don't generally prefer.
Buddy of mine (Izzy's Cages) has a plasma cutter and makes cut outs of various race tracks and other things for wall decorations, etc.:

One of things I found to add to my office and my garage is a neat light switch plate:

I've got chairs in my den and the rec room that I made from Viper and Recaro seats. I bolted them to office chair frames that have shortened legs. Pretty easy to do if you have a mig welder to modify the frames. The den also has several mounted vintage race posters and a glass case full of my 1:18 diecast models. I've still got a few artist racing prints in the closet, but SWMBO says I can't take over the living room.
We mounted a few old steering wheels I had laying around in some Ikea frames with some fancy paper from an art store as a backer.
I've also got some framed photos of old derelict cars that my niece took. Just 8x10 prints in some frames from Michaels. They're nice, without looking too gearheadish.Go looking around where you live and take some pictures yourself.
I really like Burrito's steering wheel idea.

You, sir, have just won the internet!
You could hit the big swap meet up in Barrie and find stuff to re-purpose, too.

I bought a set of these for my Brother in Law last year. He thought they were very cool.
One crankshaft plus flywheel as a base ad a pair of cams welded together at the back as the shaft plus a set of valves welded to a timing gear at the top all held together with cam/crank bolts and you have a great coat rack. Or, rather, I do.
Old LIFE Magazine adds fit perfectly in a 11x14 frame too.

I really like the steering wheel idea. I just realised I have a pair of speedway bomber type aluminium seats. I bet if I took a pair of flywheels and 4cyl crank shafts, that would make some cool chairs.
i found myself some xmas presents.. sweet
If not a V8 coffee table, then turn the crate for surplus Mosin-Nagants into one.
I don't have any guns, but that it is awesome ^^^^

Found my way into Hobby Lobby today. Not really sure how that happened, but they have a good selection of old automotive signs and crap. I've also picked up some stuff from http://www.genuinehotrod.com/?ibanner=HP60NavSRE2 or http://www.speedgear.com/search/index/

I want one of those muffler men that are usually outside exhaust shops. He could stand in my living room with a little butler tray to hold my remote and stuff.

Getting unmarried means you can now store your race tires in the kitchen. Or living room. I really enjoyed the smell - it brought fond memories. Or hallucinations. Could go either way, really.
I have a set of unused sticker Goodyear slicks. They're old, but would make good decorations.

If you marry well (or not I suppose). You can do that anyway. I've got a set of spindles and hubs from a Cup car under my kitchen table for months now because I got a good deal on them,
Otaku photography on facebook is you are looking for some cool pics that I took this summer from racing to car shows to lawn mower racing among other items. Please feel free to stop by and like my page while any one is over there.
I've always wanted to use a camshaft as a beer tapper handle...
Saw these the other day while searching the web

When I was single and I rode my (already old) CB400F year-round in Connecticut, I used to park it in the kitchen of the old farmhouse that I rented. It made it much easier to start on winter mornings.
