Ok. This is a shocker. My wife was watching my videos from my last run and she said she wants to try it!

I've been trying to get her to an event for years now.

She can't drive a stick well, so an automatic car would be more fun for her out of the box while we work on improving her ability to drive a stick. What I'm driving is suddenly less important than what she can drive and have fun with. Heck, if it gets her driving with me, I'd PUSH the damn car. Seriously.

A Mustang with and LSD seems like a good idea. If I could find a dual clutch Golf they are back on the list in a big way. Ditto an automatic Impreza. That Neon is also tempting, but I vowed I was done with them, so I must remain strong.

Is she willing to learn to drive a stick? My wife didn't know when we first met and I taught her, now she prefers one

What is your budget? Dual clutch V'dubs tend to not be cheap....

Foxbody Mustang would be a riot on the dirt, and there are enough of them out there to meet any budget.

time to teach her how to drive stick, a rallycross course is a good place to learn about the powerband of the car throughout the rev range as well.

Stupid question...would a 4th gen Fbody work? LSD, manual, v8, cheap?

not a dumb question, they're a bit low and a bit long (and wide) but if the course is hard and smooth you'll have more fun then anyone else out there.

I used to have a '96 Trans Am T56 that I sold quickly afterwards because I was afraid it was going to break on me. Starting to get the hankering for V8 power again...

Found these two on CL

One is auto and one has more questionable mechanical issues than the other...

Hmm

Working on those is no fun, the motor is BURIED in there.

I know, that's part of the reason I sold my old one. I just remembered that insurance was the same as a Corvette. I'll be paying the value of the car in a year...

After thinking about it for a bit (and having asked the question before) Mustang is starting to seem like the way to go if I'm considering an automatic car.

I like it.

Simple, Cheap, Strong parts available, Lightweight.....

Plus there are tons available around here in various states of cosmetically bad but still running well.

Though it has to be a GT model. I considered a V6 but really... why do that?

Because the V6 probably has as much power as you can put though the tires into dirt. That and they're about as free as a car can be cost wise. Who wants a V6? Having said that, I'd buy a V8 too. I am not a practical man.

My previous rallycross experience was with the Detroit Region SCCA back when I lived in MI still, there was a guy who was always out there in a Foxbody and while it may not have set the fastest laps, he certainly was having the most fun. Also had an SRT6 Crossfire, and GMC Envoy out there, made for some spectacular laps to watch

Envoy? That must have been '08ish

Ok, the search is on for a reasonably priced SN95 Mustang GT. I'll take a 1999 or later V6 if I can't find one, but if I'm getting a Mustang I really want a V8.

Unless of course a 2011 V6 comes along for about 3500 bucks. I'd be all over that, but so would everybody else.
