No worried about packaging issues as it would be a custom build but my requirements are:
- Lightweight
- Ability to make 200-300hp FI or NA
- LSD
- Manual trans
- Cheap donor
So far I've come up with Infiniti G20. What am I missing?

What does a wrecked 2006-up Civic Si go for?
Other than that, how about something with a 2.4 ecotec? I’d suggest looking for a Quad4 powered car, but those are getting very thin on the ground, and I think are hitting the point where parts availability may be an issue
any of the SRT-4 cars? PT Curiser GT's came with an engine very close to the SRT4 engine and can be found for pretty cheap
RSX. Should be easy to find a rusty, curb-rashed, crap box. Engine might be a bit of a question mark, but they should be cheap enough that you could source a replacement if the engine didn't last long.
Something Subaru?
The Nissan NX2000 comes with an SR20DE and a factory limited slip in the 5-speed.
132hp NA, but the SR20DE was available with a factory turbo (SR20DET)
Stampie said:I'm not finding a lot of these with LSD. You would think that a LSD is more important in a fwd car.
It isn't. It often causes more problems than it solves for the average driver. Its why many newer FWD vehicles leverage the ABS system to provide traction control. There was a discussion about this subject not long ago. For RWD/AWD cars its often an option you have to specify and very few do because they don't know that it might be needed to actually make their AWD work properly.
How hard would it be to weld a FWD diff in a project like this becoming rear wheel drive? Just curious.
I think eastSideTim nailed it in his first post, the 06+ Civic Si. Factory LSD, 220+ whp with some quality bolt-ons and a tune, lightweight... not the cheapest but given the rarity of cheap LSD options, I think it's your best bet.
In reply to AWSX1686 :
A little harder than a standard rear diff pumpkin, but entirely possible.
However, it tends to induce understeer at turn-in.
Transaxles like the Audi 016 can have a VLSD from the rear of an Audi V8 Quattro installed in the transaxle with a little work.
Neon SRT4 from 05+ came with factory limited slips and plenty of HP.
They are also ridden hard and put away wet, so they tend to go for cheap.
did MINI have anything with a factory LSD?
cobalt SS? I know there are really cheap LSDs that are plentiful on eBay to swap into an f40 trans (anything ecotec, saab 9-5, etc)
I've thought about this a lot with the challegne fiat x1/9, and if I weren't doing the motorcycle mill, I'd be hard pressed to go any direction other than honda. even if the car didnt come LSD from the factory, there are plentiful aftermarket options for probably any honda trans.

Or Integra.
In reply to Robbie :
Cobalt SS with the LSJ package had one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Cobalt_SS and so did the ones from 07-10
The R56 Cooper S had an optional limited slip and the JCW R56 added an electronic limited slip: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cooper_Works

Great thread. Don't know why my searches didn't find it.
In reply to Stampie :
In my head, this was always done with a DC chassis integra and a K24 engine / transaxle. LSD might be difficult unless OSG makes something. Finding a base chassis that is still Integra shaped might be difficult these days, though.
[edit] Older Civic Si as mentioned above had a K20. The trans with factory LSD should bolt up to a K24.

The most interesting one to me in that thread is the auto maximas and similar infinities of the nineties... hmmm, VQ sounds, LSD... paddle shift?
This might be the one valid use of a Sentra SE-R Spec-V. Get rid of the garbage chassis and keep the cheap engine + trans w/ LSD.
175hp, 6 speed with LSD. Replacement motors can be had from Altimas all day long.
The B16 models have 200hp. With a few bolt ons they will dyno ~210 at the wheels.

Didn't the Integra have a Torsen? Or was that only in the Type R?
