So, it looks like an unfortunately casualty of my selling the Blazer over the weekend was my Harbor Freight deluxe OBD/ABS scan tool- I had it with me when I sold the car to be able to show the buyers the code it was throwing and ended up forgetting it in the back seat when they dropped me off after signing over the title, and so far I've not had any luck in getting in touch with them to get it back.

So, I'm likely going to need a new one. The one I had was this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/can-obd-ii-scan-tool-with-abs-60794.html which did OBDII and ABS with live data reporting. With the usual 20% off coupon it ended up being around $110. It proved quite useful and I don't want to get one with less capability, but didn't know whether there was a better-value one out there that I should consider.

I'd generally prefer a traditional reader vs. one for my phone- while I do like the wireless ones, it's nice to not have to be fiddling with the phone as well, but if someone has had REALLY good experiences with a wireless (iPhone/iPad) based one that does everything I'm looking for, I'm willing to consider it too. Thanks!

I have this one from HF and it seems to do everything I need (and a bit more, I'm sure I'm not using it to it's full potential).

I have an ebay obd2 blutooth adapter that i connect to my phone and run TORQUE application to retrieve codes abd datas. You van track some sensors signals too. I dont think i can check abs but a free app and a 10$ obd gizmo is a nice bang for the bucks.

IIRC, HF readers are rebranded Autels. Good choice.

I would like to know if there is a phone based app that can read ABS codes.

I've got an Ultragauge that I use to check and clear codes (along with just using it for fuel mileage stuff). I ASSume it would check ABS as well (I've never had to use it for ABS)??? For around $70.

At least from what the hardware description says, the BlueDriver wireless reader/app will handle expanded (including ABS) codes for at least a few of the major manufacturers.

It's tempting to pick that up since it looks like it will do everything I want for about the same price- but at the same time, I like the reliability and convenience of having the dedicated reader instead of yet another thing I have to fiddle with my phone to use.

I'm figuring on waiting until the weekend to see if the Blazer's buyers are nice enough to mail me back the code reader, and then I'll decide what to do...

I like Torque + a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter, but I also have an Innova 3130 that I'd be willing to part with for a few bucks. No ABS, but it does the normal code reader stuff plus live data display and logging and it'll do things like the Ford KOEO tests.

What should one be looking for when purchasing an eBay obd2 Bluetooth adapter?

I'd try and see if you can find it on Amazon and see what the reviews of it are like. Also remember, if you have an iPhone and want to use it, you'll likely need to get the wifi version and not Bluetooth, at last count the iPhones don't have the proper Bluetooth stack for the OBDII readers unless you jailbreak them.

You'll need to log in to post.
