Where do Cosworth engines fit into this? Officially from England, but often built hand in hand with FoMoCo or Chevy?

Lets say, for ground rules, any engine which made it into a regular production car a regular guy could buy from a dealer. The region goes with the location of the OEM for the car.

So, with all of your suggestions, we've covered every V8 GM made from 1955 to 1990 or so.

BS list. The Mazda 2, 3 rotor and 4 rotor should be on the list. So should the GM LSx.

that's the one:1 the noises it makes are unrated, most turbo cars don't make a worthwhile noise, the song the one:1 sings is worth a listen.

List could be short and sweet. Sbc amd sbf, redblock, 22re and its brotheren, american slant 6. Best engines made meaning any two bit can operate one for 100 years without an issue (except for a stray timing belt from some of the redblocks)

Jeep is in there under American slant six. I mean they arent slanted so maybe I should have just said American STRAIGHT six. Ive owned a half dozen 4.0 at least, great motors.

Edit in reply to bill, so maybe leave off the timing belt redblocks and call the list "cockroach engines, best engines in the world" but the b18/b20 should stay afterall its probably the engine with most documented miles, irv gordans p1800 that I THINK is still original motor, could be wrong but 3million miles is nothing to scoff at

We have to consider stray timing belts, or we're forced to add the Biturbos to the list.

Not exactly an everyman's engine, but what about the ferrari/colombo v12s? Alfa motors - v6s and the v8 in the Montreal, BMW S38, S14. or more mainstream, Ford 427

I absolutely love the Alfa 2.5 and 3.0L. Best sounding V6 if you ask me.

The BMW M50,M52,S52, and S54 engines are in the Europe category. I will also include the VW group TDI diesel 1.9 and current 2.0 engines, also the diesels that they put in the R10, R15 and R18 LeMans prototype race cars; first diesel powered race cars to win LeMans.
